Liverpool concluded their pre-season tour of the United States in fine style on Saturday evening, beating Manchester United 3-0 at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.

Goals from Fabio Carvalho, Curtis Jones and Kostas Tsimikas were enough for Arne Slot’s side to beat the Red Devils, who had chances to score, but solid first-half play from goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher kept a clean sheet.

The result follows a 1-0 win over Real Betis and a 2-1 victory over Arsenal, which gave Slot the best possible start to his Liverpool management career.

Slot and his squad are now on their way back to Merseyside, with the rest of the squad due to resume training on Tuesday.

The sold-out match attracted 78,000 fans and they made the most of the opportunity when Carvalho scored the opener in the ninth minute.

The Portuguese Under-21 international made a move on the edge of the penalty area before firing home a shot that beat Andre Onana.

A satisfactory night for Slot

It was 2-0 before the break, Mohamed Salah beat Toby Collyer, the ball landed on the right wing and went across the goal.

Curtis Jones and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were in contention and it was the Liverpool player who touched the ball ahead of the United right-back.

Conor Bradley made a fierce run down the right after the break that resulted in a shot for Diogo Jota, who Onana managed to keep out the Portugal striker but Greek left-back Tsimikas slotted the ball into the net.

It capped a successful evening for the Reds and their new coach, who is still without several of their Euro 2024 and Copa America stars.

Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konate returned to the starting XI, but there was no place for Dominik Szoboszlai, with Slot suggesting the Hungary captain was omitted as a precaution, having played a number of games in the United States since the team arrived in late July.

The Reds will face Sevilla on August 11. It will be Slot’s first match at Anfield, with a match against Las Palmas scheduled for the day before, although that fixture remains uncertain.
