After the match, Bob Uecker celebrated with champagne again

One of the more endearing traditions the Milwaukee Brewers have cultivated as they earn a spot in the postseason is inviting legendary radio host Bob Uecker to celebrate at the clubhouse. And once again, the 90-year-old was on hand for the festivities Wednesday night after the Brewers beat the Phillies to clinch the National League Central.

“Nobody embodies a champion like this guy right here, there’s nobody here,” Brewers manager Pat Murphy told the crowd in the Milwaukee clubhouse. “What an example, having you with us every day. Bob Uecker!”

Uecker, with his usual sense of humor, reacted to the pouring of champagne with the words: “I peed my pants!”

The 90-year-old all-rounder has been the organization’s radio voice since 1971. He started the day in the commentary booth on Wednesday but opened the door for all of his partners to participate in the broadcast, with Lane Grindle, Josh Maurer and Jeff Levering all getting a chance to take the microphone during the game.

He only plays in a handful of home games these days, but he is still the most recognizable figure in Milwaukee Brewers history. There are statues in his honor both inside and outside the stadium.
