Don Johnson has found his happiness and is ready to share his secrets to success.

During a recent interview with People , Johnson detailed how he and his wife, Kelley Phleger, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary earlier this year. He told the outlet that they “had a big dinner and a big party” and that he got her “a bunch of different bling.”

The actor later shared the key to his long-lasting marriage.

“Oh, we are so in tune with each other that there is an unspoken trust and kindness and respect between us. And those are the keys,” he told People magazine.

The “Miami Vice” star and Phleger are said to have met in the mid-’90s at a birthday party for then-San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, but didn’t start dating until 1997. Just a year later, Phleger was spotted wearing an engagement ring, and the couple married in April 1999.

Over the course of their 25 years of marriage, Johnson and Phleger welcomed three children into the world: Atherton Grace, Jasper, and Deacon. The couple kept the details of their relationship private for years, but Johnson told Parade in May 2023 that “she’s an amazing woman.”

“Of course she’s a saint. I was with Bob Dylan once and I was having relationship problems, and Bob looked at me and said, ‘Well, you see, love is kindness and trust and respect, right?’ And that’s the embodiment of Kelley,” Johnson said of what makes Phleger perfect for him. “It’s kindness and trust and respect, and that’s what we have together. We’re lovers and friends, and that’s cool. She’s an amazing woman.”

Before marrying Phleger, Johnson was married twice to actress Melanie Griffith, briefly in 1976 and again from 1989 to 1996. During their second marriage, they welcomed a daughter, Dakota. He also has a son, Jesse, with former partner Patti D’Arbanville.

The actor is currently promoting his upcoming television series Doctor Odyssey, in which he plays Captain Robert Massey. The series focuses on a doctor who boards a luxury cruise ship and handles unique medical cases with his team.

While he may be a household name now, the actor “spent years living below the poverty line,” according to Johnson, telling The Wall Street Journal that he was “cast in a number of forgettable roles over the years, including five failed TV pilots,” before landing his iconic role in Miami Vice.

“I couldn’t believe that someone was apparently writing down my thoughts, feelings and emotions. This role was meant for me,” he recalled. “The audition went well, so well that I was convinced it was a sure thing.”

Johnson starred on the popular series for five seasons and received an Emmy nomination for his role as Detective James Crockett.
