Body found in search for missing Channel 4 star, 50, and map shows last meeting place

POLICE searching for a missing Channel 4 star have tragically found a body.

Katherine Watson, 50, was last seen on Thursday, September 19 at around 1pm in the Heaton Road area of ​​Newcastle.

The much-loved chaplain, known to many as Katie, starred in the popular TV series Geordie Hospital.

Police have confirmed a body has been found in the Jesmond Dene area.

Formal identification has not yet taken place but the body is believed to be that of Katherine, a mother of two.

Officers believe there was third party involvement in the incident and a report will be prepared for the coroner shortly.

Detective Superintendent Darren Adams, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is incredibly sad news and our thoughts are with Katherine’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“We will continue to support them in every way we can and ask that their privacy be respected.

“We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeals, provided information and supported our search for Katherine.”

A large-scale search has begun for Katherine, who disappeared yesterday. She was wearing a green cap, dark pants and a hoodie, as well as a backpack.

Police said her disappearance was “not typical of her” and that they were “increasingly concerned about her fate”.

Katherine starred in Geordie Hospital, a film about the extraordinary work of NHS staff in Newcastle hospitals.

She distinguished herself through her role as chaplain at RVI and Freeman.

Retired a doctor who worked with her and wrote a touching message on social media after her shocking disappearance.

They said: “For many of us in Newcastle hospitals she has been a rock during the worst moments of the Covid pandemic.

Another described her as “one of the most wonderful women I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.”

Katherine served as a veteran of the Royal Military Police and has worked in conflict zones such as the Balkans and Northern Ireland.

At the age of 18, she joined the army and completed basic training at the Women’s Army Training Centre in Guildford.

The veteran was selected to attend a preparatory course for the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and was commissioned as an officer in August 1997.

In 2002 she left the Army and trained at Humberside Probation Service.

She joined the Newcastle team in 2007 for a long-term placement and stayed until being appointed Head of Chaplaincy in 2020.

Last year, Katie spoke fondly of her role, telling the NHS: “No two days are the same, which means I never know what a shift will bring. I spend a lot of time travelling with patients, relatives and staff, whether on the wards or in the Chapel of Rest.

“I have the privilege of being with people at their best and worst.

“I enjoy coming to work every day and I am proud to be part of a team that values ​​and supports me. As a former Army officer, I particularly appreciate how being part of this Trust reflects my experiences of good leadership and a strong team ethos.”

In her spare time Katie is a qualified lifeboat skipper and loves ultra distance running and speed packing.

The Channel 4 star also has two children with her long-term partner.
