John Cale Announces Paris 1919 Reissues, Academy in Danger

John Cale has announced that a pair of his early albums will be reissued. Remastered editions Paris 1919 AND Academy in danger will be released on November 15th by Domino.

This marks the first reissue of each album approved by the artist. Paris 1919 Deluxe Edition includes previously unreleased footage, liner notes by Grayson Haver Currin, and a brand new recording titled “Fever Dream 2024: You’re a Ghost,” while Academy in danger includes digital bonus track “Temper”. “Revisiting past work is a double-edged sword for me. Of course, that’s bound to happen when you’ve been making music for 60 years or so,” Cale said in a statement. “What’s special about this process with Domino is their willingness to do it right. Not just reissue something for an anniversary or to acquire a beloved catalog — but to find new treasures and highlight what made it special in the first place.”

He continued, “After listening to the test pressings, it occurred to me that the new masterings were an important part of how these works would be presented, not just preserved. There are moments of clarity, and even a few laughs, that occurred not only in revisiting the music, but also in recalling the sessions (and antics) that made up these two recordings.”

Released in 1972, Academy in danger Cale’s solo debut took place Vintage Violencewhich he said “masked” his personality. It’s a mostly instrumental album that was inspired by his classical training. Paris 1919 arrived the following year and leaned more towards contemporary pop and rock influences, including the music of Brian Wilson and the Bee Gees.
