‘All We Imagine Is Light,’ ‘The End,’ ‘Harvest’ Among Films Screening at Chicago International Film Festival (Exclusive) | News

Payal Kapadia, winner of the Cannes Grand Prix All we imagine is light and Winner of the Mohammad Rasoulof Special Award Sacred Fig Seedswith the selection of Athina Rachel Tsangari from Venice Set were among the films qualified for the international competition at the 60th Chicago International Film Festival, which will take place from October 16–27.

The extensive lineup will also feature Joshua Oppenheimer from Telluride End to the International Feature Film Competition, with its North American premiere The silent son from Delphine Coulin and Muriel Coulin, who made their debut at Lido.

There are world premieres of Clarissa Campolina and Sérgio Borges Sucurana from Brazil in the International Feature Film Competition, as well as the entry by Jason Park from the United States Graft in the New Directors Competition and Javier Van de Couter Master’s thesis on domestication from Argentina in the OutLook competition.

New directors also see American premiere of Iranian selection at Berlinale My favorite cake from Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha, as well as the North American premieres of Abdellah Taïa’s Moroccan film Black Cape from Karlovy Vary and Bernhard Wenger’s selection from Venice Peacock from Austria.

This year’s competition will feature three world premieres, 13 North American premieres, and 14 U.S. premieres. Titles from Azerbaijan, China, Brazil, Germany, Tunisia, Australia, Italy, and France will also compete for the Golden Hugo in the International Feature Film, International Documentary, and New Directors categories. As previously announced, the festival will open with Malcolm Washington’s adaptation of August Wilson’s novel and the film is a candidate for awards season Piano lesson.

Several of the competition filmmakers are returning to the Chicago International Film Festival, including Virpi Suutari, Max Kestner, Joshua Oppenheimer, Miguel Gomes, Mohammad Rasoulof, Maura Delpero and Péter Kerekes, whose 107 mothers won the Silver Hugo for Best Directing in the 2020 edition.

Previous Chicago winners have gone on to receive Oscar nominations, including last year’s nominee for best documentary Four daughters2022 Closeand 2021 Drive my car AND The worst person in the worldwhich were nominated for an Oscar in the Best International Film category.

Japanese director Kore-eda Hirokazu will receive a lifetime achievement award on October 18, and the retrospective program will include: Nobody He knows, Like Father, Like Son, ShopliftersAND Broker.
