Jennifer Affleck wants to show people the bigger picture of her marriage.

Amid criticism from viewers The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives In the context of the way Jennifer’s husband, Zac Affleck, treats her at various points in the first season, Jennifer has come to the defense of her marriage on Instagram as the debate over the reality show continues.

“We were just kids when we got married. Young, naive, and inexperienced, we really had no idea what we were getting into. Coming from completely different backgrounds, families, and upbringings, it just didn’t make sense.”

“We were polar opposites. How could we make it work? How could we see the same picture? We didn’t always see eye to eye, and we often still don’t,” she admits. “But that’s marriage, we keep trying. I really believe there were lessons we both had to teach each other,” she begins her lengthy caption, which is accompanied by photos of herself, Zac, and their children.

Jennifer then tells the story of how Zac “bought me my first laptop when he had $10 in the account,” pointing out other times her husband supported her.

“I told him I wanted to start a video company, so he saved up money and bought me my first camera. When we were expecting our first child, I wanted a place to call home, so he worked hard, saved up money, and bought us our first house,” she writes.

“He gave me both stability and freedom, which allowed me to post videos online and pursue a career in social media. This, in turn, allowed me to support him and our family while he was in school. I couldn’t have done it without Zac.”

Noting that her husband has “flaws that we had to address,” she adds, “I can honestly say that he has always supported me and believed in me more than anyone else.”

Jennifer admits the couple “still struggles like many marriages do” and is constantly working on their marriage.

“But do we love each other? Yes. Are we willing to put in the effort to be better? Yes. Were there times when we wanted to leave? Absolutely. But there’s so much more to our marriage and what we offer each other than people realize,” she notes.

She ends the caption by thanking those who have shared their “love and support,” adding, “I truly believe that God knows what’s best for me, my family, and my marriage. ”

The comments under the post sparked various reactions, including from people close to the couple.

Jennifer’s sister, Kadee Knupfer Gill, wrote, “Zac has taken on more responsibility than any of us will ever have to face because he made mistakes on live television. We’ve all done/said things that would scare and outrage the world. Jen is not minimizing what he did. She’s not excusing his actions. She accepts him and all his flaws and hopes they can move forward and work on their marriage. The best thing you can do for them is accept her decision and support her.”

Responding to a fan who asked where Zac’s public apology was for how he treated his wife on the show, his cousin AJ Affleck wrote (clearly sarcastically), “Oh, you stalk him? You talk to them? Good to know you get an inside look at their relationship.”

The couple began dating in 2018 after meeting on a Mormon dating app called Mutual. Zac later proposed at Top of the Rock in New York City in January 2019. The couple tied the knot on June 28, 2019, in Newport Beach, California. The ceremony took place at a local temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the reception took place on a large yacht.
