Top House Republican Attacks Tim Walz’s ‘Scary Family’

Rep. James Comer (R-KY) attacked the family of Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz Friday during an interview with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.

The House Oversight Committee chair referred to the entire Walz family as both “scary” and “indoctrinated” after Bartiromo shared a clip of a recent speech from Minnesota First Lady Gwen Walzwho said it was time to “turn the page” on former President Donald Trump.

Comer told Bartiromo that the Democratic vice presidential nominee had ties to China that bothered him. Bartiromo replied by airing a clip of Gwen Walz addressing a crowd at a recent campaign rally.

“Tim Walz’s wife is also talking about turning the page,” Bartiromo said. “I’m trying to understand what page she’s talking about turning because Kamala Harris has been in charge for the last four years. So what page are we turning?”

Bartiromo aired a clip of Mrs. Walz speaking last weekend in Wisconsin. In the clip, Gwen Walz spoke with her hands to signify her hope that voters would send her husband and Harris to the White House in November, effectively ending Trump’s political career.

The clip went viral on social media and led to claims among many conservatives insulting Gwen Walz’s behavior.

In his response, Comer went after the governor’s entire family — including their children, who are usually left out of personal attacks.

“Yeah, that’s a scary family there,” he said. “I mean, it looks like the type of family that’s been indoctrinated and they believe there’s a better way to do business, and some of the things that the Walzs have said about China, their affection for China, that’s very concerning to me because we don’t want to set our business model like China’s.”

Many on the right came under fire following the Democratic National Convention for insulting Walz’s teen son Gus Walz – who suffers from a learning disability – over his emotional reaction to his father’s convention speech.
