Comedian Nate Bargatze has been tapped to host an episode of the upcoming historic 50th season of “Saturday Night Live.”

On September 18, the show revealed its lineup for the first few weeks on social media. The publication confirmed that Nate Bargatze, who made his “SNL” debut last year, would return to Studio 8H to host the October 5 episode with musical guest Coldplay.

Nate Bargatze first landed the hosting gig in October 2023 after 20 years in comedy and several TV specials, including “The Greatest Average American” and “The Tennessee Kid,” under his belt. At the time, he spoke to TODAY.com about the career milestone.

“To be here five years ago is really something pretty crazy,” he said.

In his stand-up routines, Nate Bargatze frequently mentions and mocks his wife Laura Bargatze, whom he has been married to since 2006. He also jokes about being the father of the couple’s 12-year-old daughter, Harper.

Speaking to TODAY.com about incorporating marriage and parenthood into his jokes, he explained, “You just have to try to find a balance. You have to try to do whatever is in line with love.”

The comedian has mentioned in his specials and social media posts that he first met Laura Bargatze while they were both working at Applebee’s. In a YouTube short clip of one of his performances, he explained that before becoming a comedian, he was a host at the restaurant and Laura Bargatze worked as a waitress.

He said in the video that someone asked his wife if she ever imagined what their lives would become after they met at an Applebee’s.

“She said, ‘When I met him, he was a host and I didn’t think he was smart enough to be a waiter,’” Bargatze recalled in response.

On the occasion of their 13th anniversary in October 2019, he looked back on their humble beginnings in a playful Instagram tribute to his wife.

Alongside a photo of the couple with their daughter, he joked: “Happy 13th anniversary to my beautiful wife! We met at Applebee’s 20 years ago. My first memory of her was standing on top of a broomstick and starting it like she was a witch trying to fly away.”

He added: “Harper and I love you very much!”

Laura and Nate Bargatze celebrated their 17th anniversary in 2023

Friday the 13th might be unlucky for some, but for Laura and Nate Bargatze, it marked nearly 20 years of marriage.

In October 2022, Nate Bargatze celebrated what was actually his 16th wedding anniversary with another sweet family photo on Instagram.

“Happy 17th birthday to my wife Laura!” he wrote in the caption. “I love our little family and thank you for being a part of all the craziness that’s going on.”

He mentioned that Laura Bargatze was by his side and supported him before his comedy career took off.

The comedian then added humorously: “The main reason for this post is because I forgot to do everything you asked me to do. But technically, it’s also my birthday. So I celebrated. I love you and Harper so much!”

Last year, on the occasion of their actual 17th anniversary, he wrote some even kinder words for his wife.

“Wow, we’ve been married 17 years today. Friday the 13th was great,” he joked. “I couldn’t have done any of this without you. I love you Laura. Happy anniversary!”

The couple became parents when they welcomed daughter Harper Blair together on July 8, 2012.

According to LinkedIn, Laura Bargatze works as an executive producer for Nateland Productions, the team behind her husband’s podcast, “Nateland,” co-hosted by Brian Bates, Aaron Weber and Dusty Slay.

Nate Bargatze mentioned working with his wife in a December 2020 Instagram post celebrating Laura Bargatze’s birthday.
