Police to increase resources this weekend due to Palm Springs motorcycle event

The Palm Springs Police Department will temporarily increase its officer presence over the weekend as the city prepares to accommodate a group of motorcyclists, the department announced today.

Additional measures will include a helicopter to maintain traffic and crowd safety, according to the statement. Officials warned of expected delays along Palm Canyon and Indian Canyon Drives, extending north.

“Check carefully before you change lanes, before you turn left, right, just make sure it’s clear. Ride carefully, give yourself some time to get to your destination. Wind is always a factor, and wind with a motorcycle is never good, so if you’re close to a motorcycle and it’s windy. Just be aware that the wind could push it closer to you,” said Frank Browning with the Palm Springs Police Department.

Police did not provide a reason for the biker gathering, although they expected “heavy activity” at the event. It was also unclear how many bikers were expected to take part.
