Olivia Nuzzi’s Fiancé Ryan Lizza Confirms Breakup Amid RFK Jr Scandal

New York Magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzipartner, Ryan Lizzaconfirmed that the couple had split due to her alleged relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jrthe actress’s husband Cheryl Hines.

In a statement released Friday, September 20 afternoon to Politico Playbook, Lizza — who works for the publication — said, “Because of my connection to this story through my ex-fiancée, my editors and I have agreed that I will not participate in any Kennedy-related reporting at Playbook or anywhere else at Politico.”

According to the couple’s social media, they have been engaged since 2022. It is unclear when exactly the couple decided to split.

Nuzzi worked as a well-known political reporter for New York MagazineEarlier Friday, the site issued a public apology to its readers, stating that Nuzzi had failed to disclose a “personal relationship” with an anonymous individual she profiled in her 2024 election coverage.

“He is currently on leave from his job at the magazine while the magazine conducts a more thorough, independent review. We regret this breach of trust with our readers,” the magazine said in a statement, which has since been deleted.

Although the 70-year-old Kennedy’s name was not released by New York Magazine nor Nuzzi, other media, including CNN and New York Times reported that Kennedy was mentioned in Nuzzi’s leave. Kennedy, for his part, denied having an inappropriate “personal relationship” with Nuzzi.

CNN sources told The Associated Press the affair was “emotional and digital” but not physical.

While working at New York Magazine, Nuzzi wrote a piece in November about Kennedy, who ran for president but dropped out and ended up supporting Donald TrumpNuzzi has also written several articles about Trump and his campaign.

“Earlier this year, the nature of certain communications between me and the former reporting entity became personal. At the time, I did not directly report on the reporting entity or use him as a source,” Nuzzi said in a statement to CNN. “The relationship was never physical, but it should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of a conflict. I deeply regret not doing so immediately and apologize to those I have disappointed, especially my colleagues in New York.”

Kennedy is married to Hines, an actress best known for Curb your enthusiasmsince 2014. The couple met in 2004 and remained friends until their relationship turned romantic a few years later. Hines, 58, and Kennedy began dating in 2010 after she finalized her divorce from her ex-husband Paul YoungThe former couple share a daughter, Catherine. Kennedy, for his part, was previously married to Mary Richardson Kennedy from 1994 to 2012 and Emily Ruth Black from 1982 to 1994.

Hines has not commented publicly on the Kennedy-Nuzzi scandal. Us Weekly asked for comment.
