Matt Damon Says Daughter Isabella’s Leaving for College Is a ‘Major Change’

Matt Damon is still getting used to having to signal another of her daughters to go off to college.

Damon’s daughter Isabelle18, is the last to launch the coup after her half-sister Alexia Barroso26, left several years ago. (Damon also shares Gia, 16, and Stella, 13, with his wife Luciana Barroso, 48.)

The 53-year-old actor said he and his family are still adjusting to the change in an interview with E! News in New York on Thursday, September 19.

“We have a 26-year-old daughter, we’ve been through this before, but it’s still a major adjustment for us and her sisters,” he said. “It’s a different household with one less person. So it’s a big adjustment.”

Comments come after the Jason Bourne The star opened up about her daughter preparing to head off to college in a previous interview with the publication.

“It’s a lot,” he said. E! News in July. “It’s a surreal time and the way it plays out in your life, as you get older, because it feels like I was holding her in my arms yesterday.”

Although he is self-deprecating about his parenting skills, Damon suggests preparing children to be independent and giving them the confidence to make good life choices.

“Ultimately, it’s about building self-esteem,” he said. “You know, 99 percent of the decisions they make, you’re not going to be there, right?”

That same month, Damon said news.com.au that after his father’s death Kentwho died of cancer in 2017 at the age of 75, it was important to him to share significant experiences with his children.

“After my dad died, we moved to Australia for four months and camped all over the place,” Damon told the outlet. “I think maybe it’s because he’d never been there and it was a place to go and make memories with my kids.”

Damon has often spoken candidly about his love of being a father and has previously admitted that he enjoyed taking on the responsibility from the start.

“I knew I was going to love being a father and a husband. People who were already parents would say, ‘This is great!’ ‘This is wonderful!’” he said. The Guardian in March 2012. “But I don’t think you can really appreciate it until you experience it yourself. It’s really something.”
