Comedian Nate Bargatze has been tapped to host an episode of Saturday Night Live’s upcoming historic 50th season.

On Sept. 18, the show revealed the lineup for the first few weeks on social media. The post confirmed that Nate Bargatze, who debuted on “SNL” last year, would return to Studio 8H to host the Oct. 5 episode with musical guest Coldplay.

Nate Bargatze became the host for the first time in October 2023 after 20 years in comedy and a string of specials, including “The Greatest Average American” and “The Tennessee Kid.” At the time, he spoke with TODAY.com about that turning point in his career.

“The fact that we were here five years ago is truly amazing,” he said.

In his stand-up comedy routines, Nate Bargatze often mentions and mocks his wife, Laura Bargatze, to whom he has been married since 2006. He also jokes about being the father of the couple’s 12-year-old daughter, Harper.

Speaking to TODAY.com about incorporating marriage and parenthood into his jokes, he explained: “You just try to keep a balance. You try to do everything you can while still having that nice love.”

He shares snippets of his daily activities on social media, including amusing remarks about his wife being the “man” in their house and that he’s getting married on Friday the 13th.

Laura and Nate Bargatze met at Applebee’s

The comedian has mentioned in his specials and social media posts that he met Laura Bargatze when they both worked at Applebee’s. In a short YouTube clip from one of his performances, he explained that before he became a comedian, he was a host at a restaurant and Laura Bargatze worked as a waitress.

In the video, he said someone asked his wife if she ever imagined what their life would be like after they met at Applebee’s.

“She said, ‘When I met him, he was a host, and I didn’t think he was smart enough to be a waiter,’” Laura Bargatze recalled responding.

In October 2019, on the occasion of their 13th wedding anniversary, he reflected on his family’s humble beginnings in a funny tribute to his wife on Instagram.

Alongside a photo of the couple with their daughter, he joked: “Happy 13th anniversary to my beautiful wife! We met at Applebee’s 20 years ago. My first memory of her is standing over a broom and kicking it like she was a witch trying to fly away.”

He added: “Harper and I love you so much!”

Friday the 13th may be unlucky for some, but for Laura and Nate Bargatze it means almost 20 years of marriage.

In October 2022, Nate Bargatze celebrated his 16th wedding anniversary by posting another adorable family photo on Instagram.

“Happy 17th anniversary to my wife Laura!” he gushed in the caption. “I love our little family and thank you for joining in on the madness.”

He mentioned that Laura Bargatze was by his side and supported him before his comedy career took off.

The comedian jokingly added, “The main reason for this post is because I forgot to do everything you asked me to do. But technically it’s also my anniversary. So I celebrated. I love you and Harper so much!”

Last year, on their actual 17th wedding anniversary, he wrote a few nice words for his wife.

“Wow, today marks 17 years of marriage. Friday the 13th turned out OK,” he joked. “I couldn’t have done any of this without you. Love you Laura. Happy anniversary!

Laura and Nate Bargatze have a 12-year-old daughter

The couple became parents when they welcomed their daughter Harper Blair on July 8, 2012.

Nate Bargatze posted an adorable photo of a sleeping newborn to X to announce his arrival.

“My beautiful new daughter Harper Blair. What a wonderful day,” he wrote on Twitter.

In May 2023, he shared a photo of the teenager, now an adult, on Instagram to celebrate Mother’s Day. In the photo, a family of three smiles as they stand together on a bridge.

“Happy Mother’s Day, honey,” he told his wife. “You’re the best mom and you keep the circus going. I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else. We love you.”

Laura Bargatze is the producer of her husband’s podcast

According to LinkedIn, Laura Bargatze is an executive producer at Nateland Productions, the team behind her husband’s podcast “Nateland,” co-hosted by Brian Bates, Aaron Weber, and Dusty Slay.

Nate Bargatze mentioned the collaboration with his wife in a December 2020 Instagram post celebrating Laura Bargatze’s birthday.

“Happy birthday to the best mom, wife, and podcast producer! And the most beautiful. We love you Laura,” he said.

As Variety reported in 2022, the couple reportedly runs a podcast company out of Tennessee, where they live 25 minutes outside of Nashville.

Laura and Nate Bargaze attend Hollywood events together

Laura and Nate Bargatze have turned many Hollywood events into date nights.

In April 2022, they attended the 64th Grammy Awards together at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The producer wore a black sequined gown, while her husband chose a navy and black tuxedo.

Last year, they walked the red carpet at the 2023 CMA Awards. Laura Bargatze wore a metallic one-shoulder dress while the comedian posed next to her in a black suit, which he paired with a purple shirt and tie.
