  • Anne Arundel County Police Deal with Growing School Threats

ANNAPOLIS, MD- In response to recent incidents of school violence in Georgia and Harford County, Maryland, the Anne Arundel County Police Department and Anne Arundel County Public Schools are investigating numerous reports of threats against local schools. The threats were determined to be unfounded, reflecting a broader regional and national trend.

The Police Department said 42 tips were reported about threats at schools across the state in the past 36 hours. The tips, which span multiple counties and schools, were primarily shared on social media platforms, often with screenshots attached. Work is ongoing to determine the source of the threats.

In the past 24 hours, the department’s Homeland Security Section has received 14 additional tips about threats of violence at the school. That prompted an immediate response from patrol officers. The Homeland Security & Intelligence Unit investigated 13 incidents last week and is on track to exceed that number this week.

Because many of these threats come from misinformation or false narratives on social media, their spread can cause fear and disruption in schools. The Police Department urges the public to refrain from making or sharing threats online, and to only direct such information to police or school officials.
