Prince Harry’s relationship with his children is the ‘security’ and ‘anchor’ he didn’t have in his own childhood, expert says

Prince Harry’s relationship with his children is the ‘security’ and ‘anchor’ he didn’t have in his own childhood, expert says

Royal family

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, share two children together – and Harry reportedly considers his immediate family to be the “anchor” he didn’t have when he was growing up as a working royal.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have two young children: Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. Since moving to the United States, both parents have focused on being very hands-on parents; they even pick up their children from school every day.

Harry’s upbringing was very different to the one he tries to give his children, and a royal expert says the prince’s relationship with his young family gives him the “security” he didn’t always have as a child.

Prince Harry has so much love for his family; they are his ‘anchor’

Harry and Meghan married in 2018 and announced their first pregnancy five months later. The couple welcomed their son, Prince Archie Harrison, in May 2019, about a year after their wedding. Less than a year later, Harry and Meghan moved to California in hopes of living life more on their own terms and less by the royal family’s rules. The family of three then welcomed their second addition, Princess Lilibet Diana, in 2021. Harry recently expressed how much he loves his children in a statement ahead of his 40th birthday, and one expert says Harry’s immediate family provides him with the security blanket he didn’t have as a child.

“I think he’s finding in his little family the security and grounding that he sorely lacked in his own broken childhood home,” royal expert Jennie Bond told OK! magazine. “I think he’s relishing his role as a parent and playing as full a role as he can in the lives of his two toddlers.”

Bond also added that Harry was very young when he saw his parents’ “marital difficulties” and that he was always “determined” to ensure that his two children always saw a loving family.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle not taking their children to UK

In recent years, Harry has continued to put his family first, which is a big part of the reason he hasn’t returned to the U.K. The prince has cited security concerns as his main concern, and he has said in the past that he refuses to put his wife or children at any risk.

Harry filed a lawsuit against his husband’s security, but lost the case. He has since appealed, but it is not yet known what the outcome of the proceedings will be. Today, Harry and Meghan give their children the most privacy possible to avoid living in the spotlight like Harry.
