Top News: iOS 18 and macOS Sequoia Now Available, iPhone 16 Launch, and More

It’s been another busy week in the world of Apple, culminating with the launch of iOS 18 and other major operating system updates on Monday and the launch of all new devices on Friday.

In addition to our in-depth look at iOS 18, macOS Sequoia, iPhone 16, and more, we’re also keeping a close eye on new updates from Apple that could arrive as early as next month with another event, so read on for all the details!

Apple Releases iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 with Home Screen Customization, App Locking, Passwords App, and More

A week after its big event in September, Apple officially released iOS 18 and its associated major operating system updates to the public on Monday. The release is packed with new features and changes, so be sure to check out our list of 10 things to do after the update , as well as our ultimate mega guide that combines all of our news coverage and our quick video review of the highlights.

However, one significant element of iOS 18 has yet to debut: the suite of Apple Intelligence features that Apple has been touting since WWDC in June. The first of these AI-powered features will arrive in iOS 18.1 and related updates next month, with more to come in subsequent updates.

One final note: iPad Pro M4 owners should be aware that Apple has pulled the iPadOS 18 update for those models after multiple users reported failed installs that bricked their devices. We’re still waiting for a patched version of the update that will bypass this issue.

Apple Launches macOS Sequoia With iPhone Mirroring, Passwords App, Window Tiling Updates, and More

Apple doesn’t always release new versions of iOS and macOS at the same time, but that was the case this year, as macOS Sequoia also debuted on Monday.

Key features of macOS Sequoia include iPhone Mirroring, which lets you control your iPhone from your Mac when your phone is locked and across the room or in your bag, the new Passwords app, and an improved window layout that makes it easier to multitask. iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro orders are starting to arrive to customers

All new Apple products, including the iPhone 16 line, Apple Watch Series 10, AirPods 4, and improved versions of other Apple Watch models and AirPods Max, are officially available starting Friday, September 20. We started by testing the latest Apple hardware, starting with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Early media reviews of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models have been relatively positive, though many of the updates are iterative in nature and the more advanced Apple Intelligence features that these devices are optimized for won’t arrive until a later date.

Apple Watch Series 10 Reviews: Solid Upgrade with an Unexpectedly ‘Stunning’ Feature

Ahead of its official launch, press reviews of the Apple Watch Series 10 have also emerged, with reviewers praising its thinner design and larger displays.

Other notable features include new case materials and finishes, sleep apnea detection (also available on Series 9 and Ultra 2), the ability to play audio through the watch’s speaker, and surprisingly good voice isolation that lets you be heard when taking phone calls or making FaceTime calls on your watch in noisy environments.

AirPods 4 Reviews: “Almost Perfect AirPods Pro Alternative”

There will also be two new AirPods 4 models, including a base model and one with active noise cancellation, an improved case offering wireless charging, and a speaker for the Find My Phone feature.

Early reviews of the AirPods 4 have praised the sound quality and comfort improvements, active noise cancellation despite the lack of silicone tips to seal the ear canal, and a thinner case. Overall, many consider them a great alternative to the AirPods Pro for those looking to spend a little less or prefer an open-ear design.

Mac and iPad M4 Updates Expected at Upcoming Apple Event

We’re still a bit out of the loop on this month’s event, but rumors are already circulating about what’s coming next. They include a potentially significant follow-up event in October where we could see a few M4-based Macs and one or more iPad updates.

The Mac mini could be the star of the show, as it’s rumored to have a new design that will shrink it down to the size of an Apple TV but still offer five USB-C ports and other connectivity options. A new iPad mini is also expected at the event, and while an 11th-generation iPad also seems likely, a new report suggests the time might not be right for that just yet.
