Texas Tech extends lead with touchdown against Arizona State

While the Sun Devils played aggressively in the first half, the Red Raiders opted for a more methodical approach.

And the methodical approach paid off.

Quarterback Jalin Conyers, a transfer from Arizona State, intercepted the ball and ran three yards for a touchdown, extending Texas Tech’s lead to 24-10.

Texas Tech’s drive was 12 plays and 68 yards. It took 5:55.

The Red Raiders gained eight, three, four, four, ten and three yards respectively.

They managed to convert two third-pass attempts while in possession.

ASU is currently down by 14 points, equaling their largest deficit of the game.

Result: Texas Tech 24, Arizona State 10 (8:14 remaining in third quarter)

The Sun Devils came out fired up early in the second half, and quarterback Sam Leavitt threw several inaccurate passes deep into the penalty area following a four-yard run by Cam Skattebo, forcing ASU to give up the ball on just three plays.

You might like ASU’s aggressiveness, but the execution was lacking and now Texas Tech has the ball while ASU is still losing by a touchdown.

ASU gave Texas Tech too much time as the Red Raiders drove 64 yards in 1:13 and scored a field goal with five seconds left in the first half.

But at least it wasn’t a touchdown.

The Sun Devils will start the second half with the ball down by seven points, which is easier to manage than the 14-0 lead the Red Raiders had early in the first quarter.

All things considered, ASU will probably be content with being down seven points after two quarters.

The Sun Devils did not play well at all.

ASU is looking for its first Big 12 win. Texas Tech is looking for its 600th win in program history.

The second half in Lubbock could be very interesting.

Halftime score: Texas Tech 17, Arizona State 10

The Sun Devils drove 79 yards on nine plays, scoring their first touchdown of the game and pulling to within 14-10 late in the first half.

Sam Leavitt ran the ball in from one yard out for a score, ending ASU’s best offensive drive of the game.

The only downside? ASU may have scored too quickly, giving Texas Tech some time before halftime.

Result: Texas Tech 14, Arizona State 10 (1:33 left in half)

The ASU defense just stopped Texas Tech on its next three plays and got the ball back for its offense, giving it another shot at closing the gap before halftime.

ASU could really use something new in the running game and Cam Skattebo to spark the team on offense.

The Sun Devils were no longer able to take the initiative on offense, and the Red Raiders forced ASU to give up the ball after gaining the first pass of their offense.

ASU is really struggling on offense. They have just 69 yards in this game. They are 1-for-5 on third downs.

That won’t be enough against a team like Texas Tech.

The Sun Devils turned their attention to defense after allowing the Red Raiders to score two early touchdowns, forcing Texas Tech to score another goal.

ASU’s Myles Rowser brought down Behren Morton on third down to set up a key early save for the Sun Devils, but he quickly gave the ball away after being called for tackling, prolonging the Red Raiders’ drive.

Still, ASU managed to limit its turnovers, although Texas Tech managed to stop the ball just inside the ASU 2-yard line.

Can the ASU offense make the long play and close the gap on its opponent in this game?

The Arizona State Sun Devils scored their first points in a Big 12 game.

Ian Hershey hit a 34-yard field goal to give the ASU football team the victory on an eight-play, 31-yard drive.

ASU’s drive once again stalled deep in Texas Tech territory (the Sun Devils had 1st-and-10 at the Texas Tech 18), but they managed to score a few points.

Texas Tech has second down penalties for 74 yards, most of them on defense, but ASU couldn’t capitalize on them.

Result: Texas Tech 14, Arizona State 3 (13:08 remaining in 2nd quarter)

We’ve reached the end of the first quarter in Lubbock and the Sun Devils are trailing the Red Raiders 14-0.

However, ASU continued to play after its third possession.

Texas Tech gained 108 total yards in the game, while Arizona State gained 47.

Texas Tech was assessed six penalties for 59 yards. ASU was assessed 28 yards for three penalties.

Key statistic from the first quarter? ASU has one interception, while Texas Tech has zero. The Sun Devils also lost the ball on downs.

Result: Texas Tech 14, ASU Football 0 (end of first quarter)

The third defense proved successful for the Sun Devils, who forced Texas Tech to give up the ball for the first time in the game.

The Red Raiders had three tries and an out.

ASU managed to gain 69 yards on its second offensive play of the game but failed to score.

Can the Sun Devils score on this possession?

Arizona State was desperate to do something on its second possession against Texas Tech.

ASU went for it on fourth-and-1 at its own 26 on its second possession of the game, down 14-0, and extended the drive when Texas Tech was penalized for pass interference on a long throw by Sam Leavitt, a bold decision by Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham.

Texas Tech gave ASU three first downs due to a penalty on the drive, and the Sun Devils appeared to be in great position to get back into the game, but Cam Skattebo was able to run only one yard on three attempts after ASU had 2nd-and-2 at the Texas Tech 15-yard line, giving the ball to the Red Raiders.

For this game, ASU gained just 13 yards on eight rushing attempts.

The positives? ASU’s defense got some rest after the Sun Devils’ attack, but Arizona State was unable to score.

This is not the start of Big 12 play that ASU envisioned.

Texas Tech scored two touchdowns on two possessions to build a 14-0 lead early in the game in Lubbock, Texas.

ASU put Texas Tech on third-and-21 on the drive, but a face mask penalty on the Sun Devils gave the Red Raiders new life. And they took advantage.

Berhren Morton passed to Josh Kelly 20 yards for a touchdown. The Red Raiders drove 38 yards in six plays, scoring on Sam Leavitt’s interception.

ASU trailed Texas State 21-7 last week but rallied to win 31-28, so the Sun Devils are more than capable of coming back in this game.

However, they suffered a defeat early in the Big 12 Conference opener.

Result: Texas Tech 14, Arizona State 0 (7:42 remaining in 1st quarter)

The Sun Devils have had a slow start to the season in Lubbock.

Sam Leavitt was hit while throwing his first pass of the game, but the ball was intercepted, giving Texas Tech the ball at the ASU 38-yard line on the Red Raiders’ second possession.

The ASU defense really needs a solid stop on Texas Tech’s second drive of the game.

The Red Raiders took the ball and wasted little time taking a 7-0 lead over the Sun Devils, driving 64 yards in 10 plays and scoring on a 2-yard pass from Behren Morton to Johncarlos Miller II.

Morton was four of six for 49 yards.

The Red Raiders gained 13 yards on four plays.

Result: Texas Tech 7, Arizona State 0 (11:20 remaining in first quarter)

The match will be available at 12:30 MST on FS1.

Did they utilize the services of someone from their own athletic department?

No, no and no.
