Caitlin Clark tries to cover the action by announcing her boyfriend’s favorite MLB team after showing off her talent on TV

Playoff hopeful Caitlin Clark tried her hand at commentating on the latest Major League Baseball game, one of her Indiana Fever teammates revealed.

Lexie Hull posted a hilarious clip of Clark covering the Milwaukee Brewers’ 2-1 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night, and the footage has since gone viral on TikTok.

“And that ball is hit to the shortstop,” a chuckling Clark began in the bottom of the fourth inning. “Rojas throws to first base and that’s not good enough. Single to the infield, William Contreras.”

She may have mixed up Phillies shortstop Trea Turner and center fielder Johan Rojas in that play.

Undeterred, Clark continued.

Clark boasted that she was a good commentator, so her teammate Lexie Hull put her in a tough spot

“Bottom of the fourth,” Clark said, her voice shaking slightly as Hull chuckled in the background. “Score’s 1-0 Phillies. That gets someone on base. . . Here comes the 0-1 throw. Low, outside.”

Clark didn’t just stick to the action of the game. She commented on Phillies ace Aaron Nola wearing a “sketcher” and then quickly revealed the mistake.

“And then a swing and a miss, and my second strikeout of the inning,” she said. “Nola got out of it after the leadoff hitter came on.”

A slightly embarrassed Clark turned to the camera and confessed, “Maybe it was the second batter. I’m not sure.”

Clark once again stepped forward, informing the crowd that they were entering the “start of the fifth round” following a commercial break.

“We’ll be back,” she said, and then her comment turned into laughter.

As it turned out, Clark had been raving about her commentary skills to Hull, who demanded to see them for himself.

Clark gladly complied with the request.

“I told (Hull) that sometimes I just commentate on certain games, so she said, ‘OK, let’s do it now,’” Clark told reporters Saturday. “I honestly didn’t know he was recording until I was done. But it’s pretty funny.”

Why did she choose the Phillies-Brewers game?

“I manage the Phillies, so I know some of their players and stuff,” added Clark, whose boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, is a die-hard Philly fan. “It was pretty funny. I made a couple of blunders.

“It’s hard work,” she continued. “And I was out of breath and exhausted. Shout out to all the commentators. I did it for about two minutes and I needed a break. And in baseball, there’s a lot of dead time, so you have to find random things to talk about. So I was talking about his shoes, I was talking about random things. It’s a little different than in basketball.”

Clark, admittedly, is not an avid baseball fan.

In fact, she’s rooted for several teams since she grew up in Iowa, where the Chicago Cubs have a Triple-A affiliate, and recently visited the New York Yankees’ base in the Bronx.

“My boyfriend grew up a huge Phillies fan, so I had to be a Phillies fan,” Clark said. “I still like the Cubs, I like the Yankees. I’m not a huge fan of any team in baseball… I liked the Chiefs before the Chiefs got really good, so I’m not really into it.”

The Fever will begin their playoff series on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in Connecticut, where they will face the favorites Suns in Game 1 of the first round.

Meanwhile, McCaffery is preparing for his first season as an assistant men’s coach at Butler in Indianapolis.
