Father-in-law and two others arrested by police for defiling his wife’s 12-year-old daughter

Chibuzor Benjamin, a stepfather, has been taken into custody by the Lagos State Police Command, accused of raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter (name withheld) in Ago Okota area of the state.

Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the command, confirmed the arrest on Saturday, adding that two others, Emmanuel Okechukwu and Sunday Akpan, were also arrested for allegedly defiling the same child.

Hundeyin said: “A certain Ngozi reported the case on behalf of her niece, aged 12, against the three suspects for having views on the minor’s canal. The complainant alleged that the suspects had unlawful carnal knowledge of the survivor since August 2024.

“One of the alleged suspects, whose name is Chibuzor Benjamin, is the stepfather of the survivor, while the other two alleged suspects reside in the same street as the mother and stepfather of the survivor.

“Benjamin and Sunday Akpan confessed to the crime, while the third suspect, Emmanuel Okechukwu, denied the charges. The three suspects were arraigned on charges of desecration of a minor on September 20, 2024.”
