Who is the Italian golfer married to? Meet Francesca Apollonio

DP World Tour pro Matteo Manassero married Francesca Apollonio in 2022.

The Italian golfer is on track to return in 2024.

He burst onto the scene in 2013, winning the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth aged just 19.

But despite his obvious talent, he spent years in the desert trying to regain his form.

He briefly stepped away from the game in 2019 and considered quitting golf altogether.

But he persevered and claimed his first victory in over 11 years by winning the Copenhagen Challenge 2023.

He has since added the Italian Open to his CV and is in an excellent position to take on the challenge of the 2025 Ryder Cup team.

Manassero thanked his wife Francesca for helping him find his place again.

Francesca even caddied for her husband during his two most recent victories.

Speaking to the official DP World Tour website, Manassero said of his future wife: “She was a great help to me during the two weeks, putting me in the right frame of mind, giving me the right perspective on the situation and not getting too involved in choosing the shots.

“To put it simply, she was just there for me. You smile together, you laugh, you talk and there’s more to it than just being extremely intense and focused on the outcome of each shot, which, at least for me, can get a little too much.

“These factors helped me perform and allowed me to give my best in difficult circumstances.”

He added: “She’s not going to become my full-time caddy.
