The 8 Best New Horror Movies Coming to Netflix in October 2024

It’s that time of year. The trees are turning brown and the nights are getting darker, which means only one thing – Halloween! Netflix has released its horror movie schedule for the month, and 2024 has a fantastic selection on the way. Below, we’ve hand-picked

In October, we’ll be giving you two big lists of movies you should be watching. That’s because it’s Halloween season, and we thought it was only right to highlight a few brand new horror, thriller, or other Halloween-themed titles. As always with our lists of the best upcoming movies, we’ll be splitting this list into two halves, with the first four picks featuring Netflix Originals and the remaining four featuring licensed films coming to Netflix in the US (availability in other regions will vary).

As a side note, Netflix’s new licensed horror Halloween title is pretty impressive for the first time in a long time. That’s because Netflix has more access to rival catalogs that have been held back in years past as many Netflix rivals sought cash.

New Netflix original horror series coming October 2024

Don’t move (2024)

Coming soon on Netflix:October 25th

Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock are set to star in this new horror thriller, which is likely Netflix’s biggest hit for Halloween season in the film department. It comes from producer Sam Raimi, who knows a thing or two about horror. The premise is a woman who is injected with a paralyzing agent and must do whatever it takes to escape from a seasoned hunter in the remote woods.

Jacob from our team has already seen the film, and while I can’t reveal his exact thoughts (there’s an embargo on reviews just before the premiere), he was very enthusiastic during an interview with the two directors, which will be released soon.

Bad Guys: Haunted Heist (2024)

Coming soon on Netflix:October 3

Those are two big Halloween movies for adults, but what about kids? While the big new series for families is DreamWorks’ Monster Trucks-meets-badass series, Netflix will also release its second animated special about The Bad Guys worldwide. Much like the holiday special that came out last year, the 24-minute special sees the gang (sadly not the same cast as the movie) go on a risky Halloween stunt to steal a priceless amulet from a spooky mansion.

Platform 2

Coming soon on Netflix:October 4th

When it comes to looking back at Netflix’s previous horror films, few stand out like The Platform. The Spanish film truly impressed when it first dropped in 2019 (and even earned high praise from the likes of Adi Shankar), depicting a dystopian vertical prison where a platform of food is lowered down, leaving those at the top to feast and those at the bottom likely to starve. It’s a complex film, and stands out as one of the best international films Netflix has ever made. Next month, we’ll see the long-awaited sequel, which features new faces and a new twist, although the basic concept remains unchanged.

Apart from

Coming soon on Netflix:October 17th

Finally, we come to another international Halloween pick joining the Netflix original library. We’re talking about a new Filipino zombie movie that will feature some of the country’s top talent behind and in front of the camera. Based on the people we spoke to, it has the potential to be one of the biggest and best films from the region to date. The plot centers on a mother and father who take their sons to their father’s idyllic family farm to escape the ongoing zombie outbreak. What seemed like a good idea on paper turned into another nightmare. Sid Lucero, Beauty Gonzalez, Marco Masa, and Aiden Patdu lead the cast in this movie that looks like it will keep your heart beating at a steady 100+.

A Quiet Place: Part II (2021)

Coming soon on Netflix:October 12th

A quiet place returned in 2021 for a second installment and opened with one of the most spectacular opening sequences I can imagine. It continues the story of the Abbots surviving in a world where roaming monsters are drawn to sound, with Emily Blunt leading the cast this time around, and Cillian Murphy a significant new addition to the cast. Like the first film, it’s a tense affair and will keep you glued to your seat thanks to its fantastic sound design and stunning acting.

See for me (2021)

Coming soon on Netflix:October 6

Canadians are already streaming See for me from October 2023, and Netflix US will get the crime thriller for the first time next month. Director Randall Okita’s film follows a blind cat sitter who faces off against brutal home invasion thieves, who she fends off with a mobile app. Critics and audiences have been ultimately divided on the matter since its release three years ago, though any crime thriller that tries something new gets a thumbs up in my book. The film stars Emily Piggford, George Tchortov, and Jessica Parker Kennedy.

Scream (2022)

Coming soon on Netflix:October 11

Considering that we will likely have months (if not a whole year) before we see Jenna Ortega back on our screens in the highly anticipated new season WednesdayHopefully, this will provide some temporary relief from the long wait. Ortega was among a huge cast assembled for this sequel, with Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox returning to their roles as Sidney and Gale, respectively. Set a quarter-century after the original, a new killer dons the classic mask and targets a new group of teenagers.

Gena Radcliffe joined the ranks of positive reviews when The Spool hit theaters in early 2022, saying, “The spirit of Wes Craven lives on in the fifth installment of the most intelligent slasher franchise in horror history.”

Halloween (2018)

Coming soon on Netflix:October 1st

Our final pick is another recent horror reboot/sequel to John Carpenter’s legendary film Halloween. Jamie Lee Curtis is the big draw here, reprising her role as Laurie Strode, who comes face to face with Michael Myers, who returns after four decades. Since this 2018 edition, there have been two sequels, with another on the way for 2025. By all accounts, though, this is by far the best installment.

We’ll have more Halloween picks for you in the coming weeks! In the meantime, which of these new Halloween movies will you be watching? Let us know in the comments below.
