Robyn’s Kids Say They Weren’t ‘Accepted’ By Kody’s Family

On Sunday night’s new hour, Robyn’s two oldest daughters from her previous marriage, Aurora and Breanna, said they never felt fully welcomed into the family when their mother was the last to enter into a plural marriage with Kody, Janelle, Meri and Christine. The topic came up as Janelle and Christine talked about an upcoming family event, explaining how things have been splintered since a disastrous Christmas gift text message chain the year before.

As Christine said, things got so bad that it created a permanent rift between Kody, Robyn and their kids and Christine, Janelle and their kids. Robyn, however, said her kids just wanted to step back from the situation and set boundaries, “but it was never about saying, ‘We don’t want to see you again.’”

“They never felt like they were welcome in the family,” said Christine, who felt she had been welcoming to them and always invited them to everything.

“My mother’s children and I have each had our own experiences, being told directly, multiple times, by multiple different people, that I was not accepted, that I was not their sister, that they did not consider me or see me that way,” Aurora said in a confessional.

Her sister Breanna then added: “The parents could have done a better job of connecting us as a family and that never really happened.”

Christine, however, continued to defend herself in her own confession, saying that in “difficult times” when her children were “frustrated” by the situation, “they still looked at Robyn’s children as their siblings in the same way.” She added that her daughter Truely didn’t even realize that Robyn’s children “weren’t biologically her siblings as well…that’s how close they were.”

Kody, meanwhile, seemed to agree with Robyn and her kids.

“There are people in my family who feel superior to others and say, ‘Well, we’re not going to include them in our club,'” he said. “I’m going to move on and find happiness and joy outside of my club because it was my club and I was kicked out of it.”

That wasn’t the only kid drama of the episode, however, as Janelle and Kody also opened up about her strained relationship with their daughter Madison, or “Maddie,” and her husband, Caleb.

In her confession, Janelle said that Kody was the one who “kind of cut off communication” with the duo when the “family really started to fall apart.” He said he didn’t come visit her in Montana and he didn’t call her either.

“Maddie is a total mama bear,” she said of her daughter, who has three children of her own. “She feels like until he’s coherent and present without being dramatic, she thinks it’s best that they don’t know him and that Maddie and Caleb don’t really have a relationship with him because he doesn’t call them.”

Robyn, meanwhile, said she encouraged Kody to work on his relationships with his kids, but added that it was a two-way street and that “Maddie hasn’t reached out to her dad either.”

“I didn’t really cut ties with Madison. She cut ties with me. Every time I talked to her, she was like a fish in water and I was sick of it,” he insisted in his own confessions.

He added that the best time of his life was when everyone — including the couple — was living in Las Vegas at the same time. But then, he said, “things started to go downhill with the divorce, and then my differences with Janelle and the COVID differences … it just turned all those relationships sour.”

Kody added that he was “so angry about the way I was treated,” saying he was “not ready to take responsibility for the things that my wife or my ex-wife tells them I did.” He added, however, that he hoped the time would come “when the contempt will subside and we can find forgiveness and love again.”

Christine went on to call some of his allegations “completely ridiculous.” She said, “All the kids who were frustrated were frustrated before I left. My leaving didn’t change his kids’ relationship with him.”

As for the future, Janelle told Christine that she hopes he’ll have some sort of “connection” with his kids in the future, even though he doesn’t have one with her at all. They also talked about the whole family getting together for an event very, very soon, with Christine admitting she’s “super nervous” about it.

While they all expressed hope that things will eventually calm down between everyone, it’s clear that work is still underway.
