The United Arab Emirates’ Edge Group, the country’s leading high-tech and defense group, on Monday announced the formation of a new space company called “FADA” (meaning space).

According to WAM, this step will significantly increase the group’s global competitiveness and further strengthen its pioneering position in the field of increasing space potential.

“By leveraging domestic and international partnerships and fostering key synergies through Transfer of Technology (ToT) and Transfer of Knowledge (ToK), FADA aims to build an independent, sovereign space sector that can meet domestic and commercial needs, ensuring the UAE remains at the forefront of space innovation and technology,” it added.

Launched in November 2019, UAE-owned Edge is one of the world’s leading advanced technology groups. According to its website, it was founded “to develop agile, bold and disruptive solutions for the defence sector and beyond, and to act as a catalyst for change and transformation.”

Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, Edge consolidates over 25 entities into five core clusters: Platforms and Systems, Missiles and Weapons, Space and Cyber, Trade and Mission Support, and Homeland Security.
