EPB organizes meeting to facilitate export of air shipments

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) held a meeting with the Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association, Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh Biman Airlines and foreign airlines to discuss streamlining export shipments by air, air freight management and other issues.

As per a press release, EPB Vice Chairman Md Anwar Hossain chaired the meeting which was held yesterday (September 22) at the EPB conference hall.

The meeting noted that air transport is one of the most important sub-sectors of logistics management and also highlighted existing problems at airports such as explosives detection scanners, shortage of warehousing space, unregulated spot prices and insufficient airport infrastructure to facilitate exports.

Additionally, the cargo village at Terminal 3, cold chain management and other significant facilities were discussed.

Keeping in view the inadequate condition of the cargo village at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, talks were held to ensure availability of cargo handling facilities at Sylhet and Chattogram airports to facilitate export operations by air.

The meeting emphasised that handing over tasks such as explosives detection machines and warehouse management to Bangladesh Biman would boost air transport, one of the sub-sectors of logistics management.
