September 23 (UPI) — Netflix has released new posters announcing the film Emilia Perezwhich will premiere on the streaming platform in November.

The film tells the story of a cartel leader who fakes death, undergoes gender reassignment surgery, and attempts to reunite with her family amid the chaos.

Three posters are dedicated to the actresses who, along with Adriana Paz, won the Oscar for Best Actress when the film debuted at the Cannes Film Festival – Zoe Saldaña, Karla Sofía Gascón and Selena Gomez.

Saldaña plays lawyer Rita, who helps Emilia (Gascón) build a new life. Gomez plays Emilia’s wife, Jessi.

“You have a musical that is not a musical, an action movie that is not an action movie, a drama that is not a drama, a comedy that is not a comedy,” Gascon previously told Netflix’s Tudum.

The film uses 16 songs by Camille and Clément Ducol, who received an award at Cannes for best music for a film for this project.

“Songs have this magical power to tell a story because they allow you to get from point A to point B faster, without any questions, because they speak to the heart. Each song is a specific case. They all speak to the emotional state of the character and sometimes convey information,” Camille said.

She added that Jacques Audiard, the film’s writer and director, said each song saved him “about 15 pages of writing.”

The film will be available on Netflix from November 13.
