College Football Week 5 Odds and Schedule: Georgia Opens as Slight Favorite Against Alabama

College Football Week 5 Odds and Schedule: Georgia Opens as Slight Favorite Against Alabama

The first four weeks of the season have been mostly preparation time for many of college football’s top teams, but Week 5 delivers one of the most anticipated games of the season as Alabama hosts Georgia, and the Bulldogs start the week as a slight favorite heading into the main event in Tuscaloosa.

This is a rare regular-season meeting between the two top programs in the sport. Six of the last eight meetings between these teams have been either the SEC championship game or the national title game. Alabama has won eight of the last nine meetings in this series. Georgia has dominated all others over the past few years, but the Bulldogs’ last two losses (and three of the last four since the 2020 season) have come at the hands of the Crimson Tide.

There are three other top-25 games on the Week 5 schedule, though none are as exciting as Georgia at Alabama. Perhaps the most intriguing of the bunch is No. 19 Illinois taking on No. 9 Penn State in a matchup of undefeated teams. Illinois impressed in an overtime win over Nebraska last Friday. Heading to Happy Valley is a big step up in the competition for the Illini, and the Nittany Lions are three-point favorites.

Elsewhere, No. 15 Louisville takes its undefeated record on the road to face No. 16 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are likely in “must-win” mode after losing to Northern Illinois. Notre Dame is a less-than-touchdown favorite.

The other top 25 has lost much of its luster compared to what it looked like before Saturday. No. 20 Oklahoma State heads to No. 23 Kansas State after both lost convincingly last week. The Cowboys were shut down by Utah’s defense in Stillwater, and the Wildcats had a night to forget at BYU. The Wildcats are home favorites in what could be a Big 12 elimination game.

Here are the odds and schedule for every game featuring a team ranked in the AP Top 25, as well as several other important games in Week 5. Two teams in the Top 25 have the week off: No. 5 Tennessee and No. 11 Missouri.
