Vince McMahon Breaks Silence on Netflix Docuseries ‘Mr. McMahon’

Vince McMahon has spoken out against a “misleading” Netflix documentary about his controversial WWE career ahead of its premiere.

The documentary, which chronicles McMahon’s controversial career as founder of the famed wrestling organization, is scheduled to air on September 25.

The trailer for the series, titled “Mr. McMahon,” suggests it will offer some insight into the numerous scandals involving the 79-year-old billionaire, including recent allegations of human trafficking.

In recent years, he has also faced allegations of sexual harassment and bribery totaling nearly $15 million, which led to his first departure from WWE in 2022.

Ahead of the series’ premiere this week, McMahon issued a statement condemning Netflix for using “editing tricks” intended to mislead viewers and for “confusing” the character he played in WWE with his real self.

Vince McMahon Speaks Out Against ‘Misleading’ Netflix Documentary About His WWE Career

“I have no regrets about participating in this Netflix documentary,” he said in a statement. “The producers had the opportunity to tell an unbiased story about my life and the incredible business I’ve built. All of these stories were filled with equal parts emotion, drama, fun, and a healthy dose of controversy and life lessons.

‘Unfortunately, based on an earlier partial version I saw, this documentary falls short and follows the predictable path of connecting the “Mr. McMahon” character with my real self, Vince. The title and the ads alone confirm this.

“Much has been misinterpreted or omitted entirely in an effort to deliberately confuse viewers. Producers use typical editing tricks with out-of-context footage, outdated audio, etc. to distort viewers’ perceptions and support a misleading narrative.

In an attempt to further their misleading statement, the producers are using a lawsuit based on an affair I ended as evidence that I am, in fact, “Mr. McMahon.”

“I hope viewers keep an open mind and remember that there are two sides to every story.”

Netflix announced the series in late August, releasing an official poster that said it would “chronicle the rise and fall of WWE’s controversial founder.”

McMahon is currently at the forefront of a human trafficking investigation involving a former employee.

Netflix documentary series to look at several scandals involving former WWE boss

“Mr. McMahon” is produced by Chris Smith, producer of Tiger King, and Bill Simmons.

The show will reportedly feature interviews with “McMahon before his resignation, his family and some of the most iconic names in wrestling history. As well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations.”

McMahon originally acquired the organization then known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in 1982 from his father, previously working as a commentator, before building it into an international entertainment powerhouse.

While in charge, he took the promotion to new heights. Part of his expansion included taking over rivals ECW and WCW in the early 2000s.

This charismatic figure played an important role behind the scenes, while also frequently appearing in front of the camera.

He resigned from his position as executive chairman of the World Wrestling Entertainment brand after sexual harassment allegations began to surface in 2022.

The 79-year-old billionaire built WWE into a global powerhouse after acquiring it in 1982.

A year later, McMahon returned to the office when the UFC partnered with WWE to form TKO – becoming a combat sports and entertainment giant. He took on the role of executive chairman of WWE.

However, in January 2024, McMahon resigned from this position after the first reports of alleged human trafficking emerged.

The case is still under investigation and is being led by former WWE employee Janel Grant.
