‘Friends’ cast at Central Perk

A few lucky fans went home with some iconic pieces Friends history — albeit at a high cost.

On Monday, September 23, Warner Bros. Television and Julien’s Auctions announced that numerous items from the set of the hit sitcom, including a replica of the iconic orange Central Perk couch, costumes belonging to every character, and props from every season, were sold in an auction to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary.

During the auction, called the “30th Anniversary Auction,” 110 pieces of memorabilia were sold, many for prices well above expectations.

A replica of the friends’ beloved orange couch, believed to be the most expensive item at the auction, sold for $29,250 — nearly 15 times its original estimate of $2,000.

“The gang spent many of their famous scenes on Central Perk’s main orange couch, catching up, joking, and showing off their cast chemistry,” the couch’s description read. “Modeled from the original by Warner Bros., this piece features orange velvet cushions and back cushions with carved brown resin panels painted to look like wood, and copper fringe adorning the front skirt.”

Other items that sold for significantly more than originally estimated included Ross Geller’s (David Schwimmer) Geller Trophy (below) from the Season 3 episode “The One with the Football,” which sold for $9,100 — 30 times its original estimate of $300.

In the series, this terrifying-looking trophy was used as Friends the gang’s prize for winning the football game in the Thanksgiving episode. The auction item was a studio-made replica.

Monica Geller’s Mountain

“Ross and Monica tell the others that their parents have banned them from playing football ever since Thanksgiving, when they played in the annual ‘Geller Bowl’ to win the prized ‘Geller Cup,’” reads part of the ad. “After all the fuss, everyone is surprised to see that it’s a doll nailed to a piece of wood.”

Monica Geller’s (Courteney Cox) brown striped blouse from Season 9 (above) was just one of many items worn by the cast that sold for a higher-than-expected price of $2,275. A blue cashmere sweater worn by Chandler Bing (the late Matthew Perry) in Season 7 sold for $6,500, and one of Rachel Green’s (Jennifer Aniston) sweaters from the episode “The One With The Truth About London” sold for $6,500, more than six times its estimated price of $1,000.
