Delusion: The Red Castle

This long-running theatrical horror experience has been constantly changing its plot, and this year, guests at Stimson House will be transported to the mid-20th century and the world of Dr. Frederick. The brilliant psychologist has brought some of his patients and their supernatural abilities to an abandoned castle where they will help bring the doctor’s wife back to life. What could go wrong with a little resurrection, right?

The Magic of Jack O’Lanterns

This pumpkin experience features thousands of hand-carved Jack O’lanterns and light displays. Visitors can follow a lighted trail and view pumpkin scenes, inflatables and bounce houses, as well as watch a pumpkin light show programmed to music throughout the event.

Los Angeles’ Haunted Carriage Ride

People can enter the haunted town of Midnight Falls and walk among the monsters as they make their way through three terrifying mazes. They can also hop aboard the Hayride, which will take them to the outback of town where a rumored family of cannibals lives.

Jack’s Nights

This immersive Halloween experience attracts couples and families who can walk a nearly mile-long path lined with thousands of Jack O’Lanterns and light displays. There are also digital carnival games, pumpkin carving demonstrations, food trucks and, for adults, Spookeasy, a pop-up bar serving beer, wine and themed cocktails.

The 17th Door Haunting Experience

When: Various dates September 27-November 3

Where: 8420 On The Mall, Buena Park

This is a really scary haunt. Seriously, it’s so scary that people have to sign a waiver before they can get in, and then you get a safe word that you can yell out if you want to get out. Why is it so scary? Actors can touch you, things can fall on you, you can even get on your hands and knees at some points to survive the haunting, and there may be live insects in there too.

Fearplex presents Lights Out

When: Friday-Sunday, October 4-27

Where: 1101 W. McKinley Ave. Pomona

When the lights go out, monsters and zombies appear in this haunted house and Halloween festival. It consists of several haunted houses to walk through, with creatures such as zombies, crazy clowns and a mental hospital.

Discovery Cube: Pumpkin Palooza

When: Friday-Sunday, October 4-27

Where: 2500 N. Main St., Santa Ana

Tickets: $10 for on-site admission plus $12 for special event admission at discoverycube.org

This one is for the little ones as Discovery Cube hosts Pumpkin Palooza. There will be two floors of Halloween-themed science activities, a pumpkin festival, and a dance party.

Reign of terror

When: Selected nights 27 September – 2 November

It is a huge haunted house with 142 rooms and 11 different sections themed around connections. Yes, you will feel that the horror never ends in this maze of terror filled with all kinds of monsters.
