Austin Spurs Make Strategic Trade Ahead of Upcoming Season

In a shakeup of their G-League roster, the San Antonio Spurs’ Austin affiliate traded the rights to guard Kaleb Johnson for the rights to forward Justin Smith from the Valley Suns on Friday.

Smith, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound winger, brings a wealth of talent and experience to the Spurs squad.

Smith, a standout at Indiana and Arkansas, played for the Delaware Bluecoats last season, where he averaged 23.9 minutes per game, averaging 10.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.

He proved to be efficient, shooting 51.7% from the field and 52.6% from three, making him a threat on offense.

On the other hand, Kaleb Johnson, a 6-foot-6 guard, has spent the last four seasons in the G League with Austin. Although he has yet to make his NBA debut, Johnson has shown potential during his time with the team.

The Spurs are excited to have Smith join their team and believe his skills will make them more competitive in the league.

The trade comes as Austin begins a new chapter under coach Scott King, who is eager to implement his vision for the team. With new talent like Smith joining the roster, the Spurs are poised for a competitive season ahead.
