Niecy Nash-Betts Says Travis Kelce Was ‘Very Open’ to ‘Notes’ or ‘Suggestions’ While Filming ‘Grotesquerie’ (Exclusive)

The Emmy winner told PEOPLE that Kelce was “very open” to feedback on set, adding that “fans will find him very charming in the role.”

Niecy Nash-Betts couldn’t have said anything nicer about her co-star—and now friend!—Travis Kelce.

The actress leads Ryan Murphy’s latest thriller series, Grotesqueand tells PEOPLE magazine that the Super Bowl champion “was a great guy to have on set.”

Grotesquepremiering on Wednesday, September 25, marks Kelce’s first-ever scripted role, and Nash-Betts, 54, says he was “very professional” and “always came prepared” to the set.

“Travis was very open. He was very open about whether someone gave a note or a suggestion. So submissive. ‘Tell me what I don’t know. Tell me what you think,'” she recalls. “I love that he didn’t come in trying to act like, ‘I know everything and I know everything.'”

Nash-Betts adds that the tight end was “so open,” noting, “Listen, I love actors and I want you to win. So anything I could do to help you create, find moments, fine-tune it a little differently, I was totally there.”

“I think fans will find him very charming in this role,” he jokes.

Travis Kelce in “Grotesquerie”

The Emmy winner also revealed who on set was most impressed with Kelce, 34, when he joined the cast.

“It was funny because I saw people’s reactions to him before I could really understand him. All the guys — the big guys on set, the grips, the transpos — they were all just in awe,” she recalls. “And I was like, ‘Oh my God, guys!’”

NFL stars aside, taking on the role of Detective Lois Tryon on the show was a challenge for Nash-Betts, as Lois not only investigates “a series of heinous crimes” that feel “disturbingly personal,” according to the official description, but also struggles with addiction.

“In these kinds of stories, you have to track where she is in her addiction,” he says, referring to Lois’s struggles with alcohol on the show. “Is she hungover? Is she high? Is she tipsy? You know what I mean? Is she wanting to drink but trying not to? There are so many places you can go, so it was hard to track that.”

Although she admits she is not a fan of horror movies, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story the star is “fascinated by this program.”

“When we were shooting the movie, there were days when the cast and crew would talk on set about who we thought Grotesquerie was,” he says. “I think this is this person, I think this is that person. What about this? What about that? You can’t help but lean in, because it’s the perfect whodunit.”
