Vic Starmer wears £36 ‘slow fashion’ T-shirt amid free clothes row as he breakfasts with Sir Keir ahead of his first Labour Party conference speech as Prime Minister

Victoria Starmer wore a high-street outfit today as she joined Sir Keir for breakfast ahead of his first Labour Party conference speech as Prime Minister.

Lady Starmer wore ‘The Stevie’ T-shirt, a plum organic cotton T-shirt from slow fashion brand By Elleven, as she prepared for his major speech this afternoon.

They joined Labour Party members and officials at the Pullman Hotel in Liverpool this morning for a very public breakfast.

However, the event came as the conference was marred by a row over gifts accepted by Sir Keir, his ministers and Lady Starmer herself.

She received clothes and services, including a personal shopper paid for by the Labour donor Lord Alli, and took a front-row seat at London Fashion Week when the storm broke this week.

Lady Starmer wore a plum-coloured, organic cotton T-shirt, £36, from slow fashion brand By Elleven, as she prepared for Sir Keir’s big speech this afternoon.

But it comes as the conference is marred by a row over gifts accepted by Sir Keir, his senior ministers and Lady Starmer herself. She received clothes and services, including a personal shopper, paid for by Labour donor Lord Alli.

As the storm hit this week, she took a front row seat at a London Fashion Week show.

Home Secretary Pat McFadden this morning insisted that stories of infighting in Downing Street and gifts to ministers were “storms” that would carry less weight with the public than the plans the Prime Minister is due to announce today.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster told BBC Breakfast: “As viewers can probably tell, I have been involved in politics for a long time.

‘There have been storms like this in the past. I think it’s important to deal with them. We have an important chance to do that today.

“Today is the first speech by a Labour prime minister to the Labour Party conference in 15 years. So this is a really big moment when the prime minister can set out her plan for the future, which will ultimately affect people’s lives far more than any of the arguments in Downing Street or any of the articles that have appeared in the newspapers over the last few weeks.”

Number 10 did not confirm the total value of the gifts to Lady Starmer, nor did it say when Lord Alli began paying for her clothes.

The Prime Minister’s wife has been praised for her style, with her creations being designed by brands such as Me+Em, Needle & Thread and Edeline Lee.

There are no current reports of prime ministers declaring that their partners received clothes.

Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah has rented exclusive outfits for important events, as has Boris Johnson’s wife Carrie.

Sir Keir has come under heavy criticism for his decision to accept free tickets to football matches, with almost two-thirds of Britons saying he should not have used them.

The Prime Minister and members of his leadership team have come under fire for stealing tickets to Arsenal matches and Taylor Swift concerts as they prepare for a fiscal budget audit.

Sir Keir defended his decision to use corporate hospitality at Emirates citing security concerns, while Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said it was difficult to refuse a ticket to the concert as her daughter is a Swiftie singer.

Some 64 per cent of all voters polled by YouGov thought this was unacceptable to them, including a majority (53 per cent) of Labour voters. Only a quarter of voters thought it was OK.
