Ahead of Tron: Ares’ Premiere, Jeff Bridges Shares What He ‘Particularly Didn’t Like’ About Legacy, and I Can’t Say I Blame Him

Even though Kevin Flynn seemingly met his end in the final minutes of the match, Tron: LegacyJeff Bridges returns to the role he has held since 1982. Throne: Aresone of the biggest movie releases on the 2025 schedule. While we still have no idea how Kevin fits into the story centered around Jared Leto’s titular character, Bridges recently reflected on his time in Heritagewhich was an overall positive experience for him. However, there was one aspect of the 2010 film that he “didn’t like” about how it ended.

In addition to sharing your reaction to Iron Man Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU to play Doctor Doom led Bridges to take some time to discuss Heritage during a conversation with Josh Horowitz. After the actor shared how “great it is to work with Leto,” Horowitz mentioned that he believes “nobody gets scanned more in the metaverse than Jeff Bridges” and asked him if that “scared him a little bit” in this era of AI. This led Bridges to say this:

I was scanned and in the computer when we were making Tron 2, Legacy, and I wasn’t particularly thrilled with this reconstruction of myself. I thought I looked more like Bill Maher than myself.

Jeff Bridges refers to how in the movie “The Return of Kevin Flynn” Tron: LegacyHe also played Clu (Codified Likeness Utility), an advanced program that looked exactly like Kevin in the late 80s and was designed to help him create a “perfect” computer system alongside Tron in The Grid. In other words, Bridges was de-aged to breathe life into Clu, and this was one of the earlier examples of digital technology being used for this purpose. Unfortunately, Bridges felt that Clu looked less like himself and more like the host of an HBO show In Real Time with Bill Maher in his younger years. I can see what he meant by the image below, although it’s now become more obvious to me what Bridges’ fake skin looks like when he’s in Clu form.

The film and television industry has come a long way since the digital era in the last fifteen years Tron: Legacy was folded. So it stands to reason that if it were released now, Clu would not only look less artificial, but more in keeping with how Jeff Bridges looked at the time he starred in films like Tucker: The Man and His Dream AND The Fisher King. On the other hand, since Kevin Flynn’s role in Throne: Ares is shrouded in mystery, there’s a possibility that Bridges will be rejuvenated again and this time, let’s hope he likes the final product more.
