Unfortunately, the new ranking has highlighted a problem that we should pay more attention to.

Driving While Tired: A Problem in Colorado and Wyoming

Colorado and Wyoming lead the nation in drowsy-related driving deaths, according to a new report from Anidjar & Levine. Anidjar & Levine are accident lawyers who analyzed data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to their study, 4.5% of fatal crashes in Colorado are caused by driver exhaustion, and in Wyoming, 8.8% of fatal crashes are caused by drowsiness.

Wyoming and Colorado top the list of states with the highest rates of fatigue-related driving fatalities in the country.

Fatigue Driving in Colorado and Wyoming

I have been a driver on many road trips in my life. I usually pride myself on how long I can drive without stopping. On my last road trip, I quickly learned that stopping and resting is more efficient and safer.

There are no laws in Colorado that limit how much time you can spend on the road, but there are some recommendations.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration recommends that when traveling by car, a driver should not drive for more than 10 hours per day.

Make sure you are not putting yourself or others in danger. Don’t feel bad that you need a break.

According to 2022 Consumer Affairs data, the 10 cities in the gallery below are where Colorado drivers make the most mistakes when it comes to fatal crashes, drunk driving and speeding.
