Cast, release date, everything we know

UPDATE: Latest Information: Wizards of Waverly Place already has a premiere date — just in time for spooky season — and directors, familiar faces from Disney Channel. The first look at the film gave a taste of David Henrie and Selena Gomez’s return to the sequel series and more.

Deadline reported the news of the series continuing in January. Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas are writers and executive producers. Andy Fickman directed and executive produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes.

Selena Gomez revealed Wizards of Waverly Place sequel title on Disney’s website in May 2024. The spin-off will be called Wizards of Waverly Place. She also shared the first two photos, which you can see below.

The original show ran for four seasons, winning Emmy Awards and doing well in the ratings, until star Selena Gomez decided it was time to move on to more adult roles. The show aired from 2007 to 2012, with Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie also aired on Disney Channel in 2009. The cast returned for a standalone special, Return of the Wizards: Alex vs. Alexin 2013.

Since then, rumors have been circulating about another reunion and now, a decade later, Disney is becoming their reality.

When will it be? Wizards of Waverly Place descend?

The sequel will premiere on October 29, 2024, just in time for Halloween. The first two episodes will air at 8:00 PM ET/PT on Disney Channel.

Who will direct? Wizards of Waverly Place?

Disney Channel stars Raven-Symoné and Danielle Fishel will direct episodes of the series.

Is Selena Gomez involved?

Yes, Gomez will guest star in the pilot as Alex Russo. She also executive produces the series with David Henrie, her small-screen sibling.

Will other members of the original Wizards of Waverly Place cast return for the sequel?

Henrie will reprise his role from Justin Russo. He will be a series regular, meaning we’ll see more of him on the show than Gomez.

Have any new actors joined the cast?

Yes. The new cast members include the series’ leading lady, Janice LeAnn Brown (Disney’s Just do it), who will play the powerful young wizard Billie, whom Justin takes under his wing. Taylor Cora will join the series as a series regular in the role of Winter, Billie’s fun, quirky, and overly sharing best friend. Alkaio Thiele (Call me Kat) will play Roman Russo, Justin’s oldest son. Max Matenko (Platonic) plays Milo Russo, Justin’s youngest son. Mimi Gianopulos (American Princess) will play Justin’s wife, Giada.

How will the Wizards of Waverly Place sequel expand on the original series?

In the sequel, Justin Russo is now an adult with a wife and two sons. Justin has given up his wizard powers, opting for a normal, human life. After a mysterious incident at WizTech, Justin gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard shows up at his door in need of training. He is faced with a dilemma: maintain his everyday life or accept his past in order to ensure the future of Wizard World.

The trailer, released on September 24, features both Selena Gomez and David Henrie.

Is anyone else from the original series involved?

Gary Marsh, former long-time Disney Channels creative director who was a driving force Wizards of Waverly Place and was instrumental in landing Gomez at the network after she was discovered at an open casting call in Dallas. She also serves as an executive producer.

What else is Gomez working on?

In addition to her music, Gomez is currently a star and executive producer on the popular Hulu/20th TV comedy series in the Disney family. Only murders in the buildingSeason 4 premiered on August 27. She will also play Linda Ronstadt in a film based on the singer’s memoirs Simple dreams. Directed by David O. Russell, Gomez is also working on an untitled Food Network series set to debut in 2024. It will feature her teaming up with some of the country’s top chefs to prepare their most popular dishes as she visits their kitchens.
