Zinedine Zidane’s son announces retirement from football

Zinedine Zidane’s eldest son has decided to end his football career at the age of 29. Spanish news service HOW announced on Tuesday that Enzo Zidane is officially retiring after being without a club from the 2022-23 season.

The Bordeaux-born midfielder trained at his father’s former club Real Madrid, playing for their youth team between 2004 and 2014.

Despite this, he only made one first-team appearance for the famous Spanish club, scoring a goal in the 2016 King’s Cup match against Cultural Leonesa.

Zidane moved to Alaves in 2017 and, after his contract was terminated a year later, joined Lausanne Sport in the Swiss Super League.

He scored two goals in 16 appearances for Switzerland before making brief appearances in Spain’s Segunda Division and the Portuguese top flight.

He played for Ligue 2 side Rodez in the 2021-22 season, making 15 appearances as they narrowly avoided relegation. His most recent stop was in Spain’s third tier, known as the Primera Federacion, where he scored in 28 appearances for Fuenlabrada.

Despite showing early potential, the 29-year-old never established himself as an elite playmaker like his legendary father, making one appearance for Spain’s Under-15s and two for France’s Under-19s.
