Composed Eaton hand university its first loss in highly anticipated girls volleyball match

EATON — The Eaton girls volleyball team made a statement on the court Tuesday night.

In front of a packed gymnasium full of witnesses, the Reds cruised to a 3-0 victory over archrival University in a clash of the two best teams in the region and the state.

Eaton (11-0 overall, 5-0 in Class 4A/3A/2A Patriot League) entered the game ranked second in 3A by CHSAANow.com. The Bulldogs (7-1, 4-1) are ranked third in 4A.

University showed great fight in the three sets, often coming back from big deficits to make the Reds sweat. However, the calm Eaton did not give up, finishing each set with pressure to win 25-22, 27-25, 25-19.

Senior Annabelle DeJager led Eaton’s balanced attack with 13 points, an ace and nine saves.

Bulldogs freshman standout Delaney Lauer had 11 kills and one block.
