Why Sylvie Is The Ultimate Emily in Paris Fashion Icon & Where To Shop

Hit Netflix series Emily in Paris is back on our screens with all its charms — hot people, cool locations, delicious food, and incredible fashion. There’s no denying that the show is full of clichés, but it’s also hilarious and dramatic, so you can’t help but watch every season whenever it comes out. Speaking of fashion, Emily (played by Lily Collins) is the obvious star of the show with her colorful outfits, bold statement pieces, and patterned looks. But as the show has progressed, so has the fashion game of the show’s Parisians — especially Emily’s ever-stylish boss, Sylvie (played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu). Today, we discuss why Sylvie is the ultimate fashion icon Emily in Paris.

In the series, Sylvie Grateau is a woman in her fifties who runs her own business. She is intelligent, fearless and bold, presenting classic French elegance with an edge. A perfect blend of sensuality and sophistication, her strong approach to minimalist style charmed young viewers. In contrast to Emily’s extravagant approach to fashion, Sylvie’s style can be described as “very attentive, very modest”. Philippine herself ages like a fine wine, and her wardrobe “Sylvie” is a true testament to classic French style and timeless designs.

Sorry, Emily, but Sylvie is a true fashion icon. Emily in Paris

We’re not starting a fashion war between Emily and Sylvie, but it’s hard not to love Sylvie’s outfits. In the first two seasons, Cooper had our undivided attention with her bold and eccentric choices, wacky headpieces, and eye-catching prints. We couldn’t help but root for the sweet American girl next door as she struggled to survive in Paris without speaking the local language or understanding the culture.

On the other hand, Sylvie Grateau is her hard-to-read, hard-to-please boss who is elegant, bold, and à la mode. She represents the best of Parisian fashion—classy and confident. While Emily is known for her playful mixing of colors and patterns, Sylvie opts for a more muted palette. She chooses colors like black, gray, and neutrals with the occasional bold pop of color and statement piece.

One of the key elements of her subtle, powerful style is the perfect fit of her clothes. From an elegant blazer to a stunning pencil skirt, every item in her wardrobe fits perfectly. Her impeccable sense of fashion reflects her strong personality and down-to-earth approach to life. Her accessories are never intrusive or loud; instead, they complement her outfits and provide a subtle touch of elegance. She doesn’t shy away from her femininity. Her tailored outfits often feature plunging necklines and thigh-high slits, but they never cross the line into obscene. It’s sensual, yet sophisticated. Sylvie exudes a French “I don’t know what” attitude, never seeking attention but always accepting it with class.
