Trump announces outdoor Pennsylvania rally to ‘finish our speech’ at site of first attempted attack

Former President Trump is set to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, and hold an outdoor rally at the same spot where the first attack took place. attempt in July.

“President Donald J. Trump will return to Butler, Pennsylvania, to hold a rally on the same grounds where he nearly lost his life less than three months ago,” the campaign said in a news release Wednesday.

The Republican presidential candidate is scheduled to deliver a speech Oct. 5 at the Butler Farm Show in the suburbs north of Pittsburgh.

During a rally Wednesday in Mint Hill, North Carolina, Trump said he wanted to return to the venue to “finish my speech.”

“As you know, there were two attempts on my life that we know of… and the first one was in Butler, Pennsylvania, which is a great place, and we’re going back to Butler,” he said. “We’ll come back and finish our speech.”

Trump campaign officials announced that the former president would pay tribute to the victims of the attack during the rally.

Corey Comperatore, 50, was a firefighter and father of two daughters. “Historically, he sacrificed his life to protect his wife and daughters” during the assassination attempt on Trump, the campaign said.

Trump will also pay tribute to two other Americans wounded by the shooter, David Dutch and James Copenhaver.

“She will express her deepest gratitude to law enforcement officers and first responders, and the entire community for their outpouring of support and love following the attack,” the campaign said in a statement.

The flag is lowered at half-staff at the entrance to the Butler Farm Show in Butler, Pennsylvania, July 22.

Trump’s campaign said his return to the site of the first attack was a “tribute to the American spirit.”

“In America, we refuse to let monsters like this evil killer have the final say. Whenever our nation is attacked or challenged, we come together, persevere, and triumph,” the campaign said in a statement. “When terrorists tore down our towering skyscrapers, we built them back up taller. When our communities are devastated by fire, storm, or natural disaster, we come back together and come back stronger.”

“And when a shooter attacked our democracy and tried to end this movement, President Trump will return to this site with tens of thousands of proud citizens, and together they will celebrate a unified vision for America’s future in an event the likes of which the world has never seen before,” it continued.

Trump’s campaign said he is “more determined than ever” after two assassination attempts in the past nine weeks: one in Butler and the other at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“On this field, Butler took a bullet for democracy on July 13—and on November 5, he will save our democracy,” they said. “With the help of the great people of Pennsylvania and citizens across our country, we will make America safer, stronger, freer, and more great than ever before.”
