An uncooperative Lil’D returns as a witness in Young Thug’s trial

ATLANTA, Georgia (Atlanta News First) – Another suddenly uncooperative prosecutors’ star witness in the Young Thug trial testified again Tuesday in Atlanta’s 21st Century trial.

Joining the ranks of Kenneth Copeland (aka Lil’ Woody) and Antonio Sledge (aka Mounk Tounk), Quindarrious Zachary (aka D or Lil’ D) said he has forgotten virtually everything he told police many years ago ago, when investigators tried to link a series of alleged retaliatory shootings against a gang headed by the world rapper-star himself.

After being arrested on a material witness warrant more than a week ago and ordered confined to his mother’s home over the weekend, Zachary resumed his testimony in Young Thug’s trial this week.

On Tuesday, defense lawyers argued for the first time with Zachary, who was arrested two weeks ago in an attempt to force his testimony. After he spent the weekend in the notorious Fulton County Jail, his attorney Dennis Scheib pleaded with Fulton County Superior Court Judge Paige Reese Whitaker to release Zachary due to his ongoing health problems.

But on Friday, Zachary showed up in an orange Fulton County Jail jumpsuit and took the stand. However, on Monday, Zachary stated that he was taking hospital painkillers and did not remember the testimony given on Friday. Today, during the hearing, he also asked for medication and stated that he had ADHD and autism.

On Monday, Zachary repeatedly responded “I don’t know” when Chief Deputy District Attorney Adrianne Love mentioned a series of retaliatory shootings in 2015 that prosecutors are trying to link to the alleged YSL criminal gang.

“I have never been honest in my life,” Zachary said when asked by Love whether he had given honest statements to police in the past regarding several alleged criminal activities.

After Zachary appeared in court on Friday, he was ordered confined to his mother’s home for the weekend; ban on access to the Internet and social media; and be equipped with an ankle monitor.

Scheib also told First, news from Atlanta, in an exclusive interview, his client was too ill to testify. Scheib said Zachary suffers from severe sickle cell disease and has repeatedly visited hospitals where he received blood transfusions.

Zachary was mentioned numerous times during the trial of Jeffery Williams (real name Young Thug). According to the recent testimony of Antonio Sledge (aka Mounk Tounk), Zachary allegedly participated in a 2015 drive-by shooting with Damekion Garlington against a suspected rival gang member.

Opening statements were held at Young Thug’s trial on November 27, 2023. Jury selection in the trial took longer than any other in Georgia history, and witness testimony alone is expected to exceed state records. Both records were set in the wake of the 2014-2015 Atlanta Public Schools teacher scandal and trial.

Young Thug celebrated his 33rd birthday on August 16, 2024 after being arrested on May 9, 2022, along with 27 other suspected gang members in Buckhead as part of a 56-count indictment.

The trial itself began on November 27, 2023. Defense attorneys have repeatedly expressed concerns about the length of the trial, and Fulton County prosecutors still have more than 100 witnesses to testify.

Prosecutors are trying to prove that YSL is a criminal street gang responsible for numerous crimes. Defense attorneys say YSL is not a gang but simply the name of a record label.

Williams is also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of codeine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine, possession of a firearm and possession of a machine gun.
