Earlier this year, 17-year-old Littler topped the Premier League darts table with 40 points, beating the likes of Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen.

The president of a professional darts corporation, Hearn, believes Littler can become one of the best darts players of all time.

Hearn revealed that Littler would “surprise” many because he is already “mature” in the way he behaves.

He said: “He has the potential to become one of the all-time greats. This is the sacrifice he must make. Does money spoil him?

“No one really knows the answer to whether it will or not. It will largely depend on him and how he copes in the new world.

I think he will surprise many people with the maturity he has already achieved. The way he handles himself. It’s perfect. Let’s hope it stays that way. We are amused by size.

– There are several players who have potential from the age of 12.

“People will always be smarter after the event. And then one day I found myself saying this: “Oh, we’ve all known about Luke Littler since he was seven.” Marginally true!

“I think there’s another kid coming up right now, I think he’s 10 years old and he’s been throwing since he was three.

“It’s a joy for the promoter, we all need a narrative in every sport.

“We have to be able to tell the story, set the stage. We need to get everyone involved, get people talking.

“Luke Littler did it. By the way, he still has a long way to go.

“I think he’s a sensible guy, I think he knows that. He keeps the pace and will get beaten too, he’s not going to suddenly sweep everyone off their feet.

“Because the sport we have created over the years is too competitive for anyone to come in and match Phil Taylor.

“I mean, Phil Taylor has 16 world titles, he’s an unbelievable player.”
