Hurricane Helene: Deaths and injuries reported in metro Atlanta, Georgia

Hurricane Helene is expected to damage more than just homes and vehicles; it has already caused at least 6 deaths and one injury, with more deaths and injuries expected.

2 people died in southern Georgia

According to WXGA News, two people died after a possible tornado touched down in southern Georgia shortly before 11 p.m. The Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office told WXGA that a possible tornado took over a mobile home near U.S. 19 and Adams Cemetery Road. There was a man and a woman in the caravan at the time. A passenger in the vehicle was also injured after the caravan hit his vehicle.

Spalding County injury

According to the city of Griffin, a woman was injured in Griffin when a tree fell on a home in the 400 block of Hammond Drive. Neighbors heard the noise and called for help. Spalding EMS responded, entered the home and extricated the woman. She was taken to Spalding Regional Hospital and was reportedly in stable condition during transport.

Death in Colquitt County

Colquitt County Emergency Management Agency reports one person died after their vehicle struck a downed tree on 5th Avenue SE in Moultree. No other details about the death have been released at this time. They also mentioned that there is extensive damage in the county.

2 deaths in Laurens County

Two people are dead in Laurens County, according to WMAZ News. One person reportedly died when a tree fell on a house and another person died in a car accident.

A Pierce County firefighter has died

In Pierce County, fire officials told First Coast News a firefighter was killed when a tree fell on his vehicle as he drove through Blackshear.
