Amazon opens an automated fulfillment center in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The highly anticipated Amazon fulfillment center is now open in Shreveport.

The facility is located at 1625 Corporate Dr. and provides over 1,000 new jobs. The state-of-the-art, robotic order fulfillment center will be able to process hundreds of thousands of customer orders every day, say Amazon representatives.

  • It can hold as many as 40 million items in stock
  • With the building’s electrical wiring, you can get to the moon and back
  • Look out for 1,400 Pegasus and Hercules discs

The fulfillment center, known as SHV1, is considered Amazon’s “first mile” network, meaning it is the first place someone’s package is in the flow of materials through the supply chain before it is sent to “middle mile” centers. “Mili” by Amazon. The courier service provider then delivers the parcel to its destination.

At SHV1, workers will select, pack and ship items such as books, toys, household items and electronics. When you click “buy now” on Amazon.com, your order will begin at a location like SHV1.

The facility is five stories high and has more than 2.5 million square feet of space; that’s about the same as 50 football fields. Amazon representatives say about a million items pass through the facility every day.
