Doctor killed in St. John’s shooting Francis honored in Ponca City

PONCA CITY, Okla. – Following the 2022 Saint Francis Hospital tragedy in which a gunman shot and killed four people.

Stephanie Husen was one of the victims and has now been inducted into the Senior High Hall of Fame in Ponca City, her alma mater.

Dr. Husen graduated from Ponca City Senior High in 1992. In high school, she was a cheerleader and class officer, but the most important thing to her was her family and friends.

Her high school friends are still close, thirty years later. They told 2 News how special Stephanie was as a person.

“She did an amazing thing that just made you feel better… A true friend, sincere, authentic,” class of 1992.

After graduating from Po-Hi, Stephanie went to OU and earned a degree in physical therapy. She then went to OSU to pursue a degree in osteopathic therapy.

She worked in South Carolina and then returned to her home state to work at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, where she helped thousands of patients.

Then on June 1, 2022, Stephanie was taken from this world in an act of violence and hatred.

Fast forward to the moment when her alma mater recognizes her as a person of life and she settles in as a doctor.
“I feel like it’s a good representation of all the good deeds and things she’s done in her life. She was a doctor and she helped a lot of people,” Kristen Hallcorft said.

On September 26, she and four other Po-Hi graduates were inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Her friends and family traveled from Tulsa, OKC and out of state to celebrate her achievements.

“If anyone deserves this award, it’s her. Unfortunately, she’s not here to celebrate. But her friends and family are here to celebrate and we are honored to be here,” Hallcroft said.

Stephanie’s friends over thirty years have nominated her through many people, which is a unique situation for a selection committee.

Her brothers accepted the award in Stephanie’s honor.

“I think we’ll leave here feeling better about being present in her spirit tonight, and it just shows how great she was as a person,” Stephanie’s friend said.

Stephanie’s family told us off-camera that the induction is bittersweet for them. They said Stephanie would be honored and she loved being a wildcat.

Now she will forever remain a Wildcat on the walls of the room where she once walked.
