GRAMMY Award winner Leon Thomas releases new album MUTT

Grammy-winning artist Leon Tomasz released his long-awaited new album, CLOWNavailable now via EZMNY Records / Motown records. Leon’s bold and introspective second studio album pushes the boundaries of contemporary R&B, weaving soulful melodies with rock influences and experimental production.

Includes collaboration with You Dolla $ign, Freddie Gibbs, Waleand more, CLOWN vividly explores the multifaceted nature of love – from the thrilling rush of loneliness to the nuanced depths of emotional intimacy. Listen HERE.

Reflecting on the inspiration for the album, Leon shares: “MUTT is an album I recorded after a long-term relationship. I was making progress in my personal career and getting to know myself in solitude. Newly married, I began documenting through my music examples of our need for control in today’s dating climate. I got a dog in a previous relationship and after studying its behavior, I discovered similarities. He is currently untrained and lives by his natural instincts, while I, as his owner, can constantly demand obedience. MUTT is a metaphor for our human need and desire to exercise control over our partners. I explored themes from jazz, rock & roll, hip-hop and R&B without imposing any parameters on my personal expression. This project delves into every part of me: the balance between control and chaos.

On standout track “Feelings on Silent” featuring Wale, Thomas delves into the emotional depths that arise when communication fails. Through richly resonant vocals, Leon navigates the internal struggle of wanting to connect amidst unexpressed feelings, stating: “If I Could Silence My Feelings” which embodies the desire to protect against emotional turmoil. Wale’s reflective verse complements Thomas’s soulful delivery, creating a raw exploration of vulnerability and a delicate dance between self-preservation and longing.

With the release of the album, Leon Thomas presents the black and white music video for “MUTT (Remix)” featuring Freddie Gibbs, directed by Daniil Demichev Taking place in a moody, abandoned theater, Leon wanders through dark corridors in the company of women – a creative nod to the mongrel metaphor that delves into the nuances of love. Freddie Gibbs brings his villainous energy to this dreamlike atmosphere, highlighting the tension between freedom and imprisonment and adding a raw intensity that complements Leon’s introspective exploration of vulnerability and trust. Leon Thomas recently released his latest single and video “Far Fetched” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, the second track from CLOWN. In the song, Thomas navigates the tension between vulnerability and emotional boundaries, and the accompanying 360-degree cinematography in the film reflects the cyclical nature of relationships and his constant pursuit of forgiveness.

Additionally, Thomas returned to “MUTT” with a remix featuring Freddie Gibbs, adding a grittier, rawer feel to the song’s exploration of flawed love. Gibbs offers a darker, more elusive perspective, highlighting the complexities of emotional distance and survival in transient connections.

This fall, Thomas is taking it CLOWN on the road on his 13-stop North American tour. Starts October 27 in Atlanta One music festivalthe tour will hit major cities such as New York, Toronto and Houston, ending on November 29 at El Rey in Los Angeles. Tickets can be purchased at LeonThomas.com.
