What is former Alabama coach Nick Saban’s coaching record against Georgia?

Former Alabama football coach Nick Saban will be on-site for the Crimson Tide’s anticipated game against Georgia on Saturday as part of ESPN’s “College GameDay.” Unfortunately for Alabama, he won’t be benched despite his career success against the Bulldogs.

Georgia, despite winning 42 straight games in the regular season, has recently faced Saban. That was under Saban disciple Kirby Smart, Alabama State’s former defensive coordinator from 2008-15.

While Saban seemed to have the Bulldogs’ number during his tenure at Alabama, one of his few losses to Georgia was a big one when the Crimson Tide lost to Georgia 33-18 in the 2022 national championship.

Nick Saban’s record against Georgia

Here’s Saban’s record against Georgia during his tenure at Alabama (Saban went 2-1 against the Bulldogs at LSU, including winning the SEC Championship in 2003):

Saban finished his career with an 8-2 record against Georgia as Alabama’s coach, losing his first game against the Bulldogs as Alabama’s coach only in 2007, along with the 2022 national championship.

Saban lost to Mark Richt and Georgia in 2007, losing 26-23 at home in Tuscaloosa. He then posted seven consecutive victories against the Bulldogs through 2022, when Smart earned his first and only victory over Saban, defeating Alabama 33-18 in the 2022 national championship at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Georgia looked to be on track for another potential national championship berth in 2023 after winning back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022, but Alabama snapped its undefeated season after defeating the Bulldogs 27-24 in the SEC championship game, which ended in victory this was Saban’s final matchup of his career against Georgia.

In ten career games against Georgia, Saban faced Smart in six of them, finishing with a 5-1 record against his former defensive coordinator.
