If Rohit, Kohli and Bumrah play all the league matches for their franchise, they can earn INR 1.05 crore in addition to the amount contracted in the IPL.

For the first time since its inception in 2008, cricketers will receive an additional match fee in the IPL that will be above and beyond the auction price, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced on Saturday. Calling it a landmark move, Shah said it was done to celebrate consistency and exceptional performances in the IPL.

Kohli, Rohit and Bumrah could earn an extra INR 1.05 crore in IPL after BCCI’s landmark ‘pay per match’ (IPL) announcement

Each cricketer will get an additional amount of INR 7.5 lakh as match fee, which means if players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah play all the league matches for their franchise, they will be able to earn INR 1.05 crore in addition to their contracts amount.

“In a historic move to celebrate consistency and exceptional performances in the #IPL, we are happy to introduce a match fee of INR 7.5 lakh per match for our cricketers! A cricketer playing in all league matches in a season will be paid Rs 1.05 crore in addition to the contracted amount,” Shah wrote in X.

Shah said each franchise would contribute an additional 12.60 as match fees for each season. “Each franchise will contribute INR 12.60 crore towards match fees during the season! It’s a new era for the #IPL and our players!” he added.

IPL stop announcement coming soon

The historic announcement comes at a time when the franchise owners are set to meet members of the IPL Governing Council to finalize the player retention policy ahead of the mega campaign.

The board is likely to award up to six entitlements, including a Right To Match (RTM) card, to each franchise ahead of the mega auction in November this year.

The delay in announcing the retention rules is due to the lack of consensus among franchise owners. Teams like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are believed to be strongly in favor of greater player retention, which will help them retain the core of the team.

On the other hand, Delhi Capitals (DC), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) want a fresh pool of players for the mega auction.

There will probably be an official announcement on this matter soon.
