3. 20 years in prison for kidnapping, rape and forced marriage of a teenage girl | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: District Additional Fast Track (Pocso) court Jajpur on Saturday sentenced three people, including a woman, to 20 years in prison for their involvement in kidnapping, rape and forced marriage A 15-year-old girl three years ago. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 each on the three convicts. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months in prison.
The court directed the Odisha government to provide compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the survivor. The girl’s father had filed a complaint on September 22, 2020, alleging that Bhagawan Moharana (27) of Keonjhar had kidnapped his daughter on September 18 and raped her at the house of Poonam Agrawalla (45) in Jajpur.
Later, Moharana raped her again at the house of Nirakar Panigrahi (62), a priest from Bhadrak district. Moharana also married a girl in the Nirakara house. After registering a complaint, the police arrested all three.
“The court relied on the statements of 20 witnesses and medical reports to convict the accused,” said Parth Sarathi Ray, special prosecutor.
