The Arkansas Razorbacks fall into the Aggies again in similar fashion

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — It’s hard to blame the defeat on one positional group because each had their own share of problems. This time, the Aggies continued to break Arkansas’ hearts in similar fashion, winning from behind, 21-17.

Turnovers, penalties, poor game decisions and overall mismanagement of momentum made the game what could have been a signature win for the Razorbacks. Another close defeat in a neutral-field competition that has been a regular occurrence for the past decade.

The Arkansas defense plays the first three quarters except for one big touchdown on the right side of the field. Texas A&M was able to fix its running problems late in the third quarter, pummeling the Razorbacks 88 yards on 20 carries on a touchdown by quarterback Marcel Reed.

The Aggies forced an issue against a bullish Arkansas offensive line that was rushing to the rim, just as Auburn and UAB had done a few weeks earlier. The pressure disrupted quarterback Taylen Green’s timing with two interceptions, he was sacked twice and he was hurried eight times.

Special teams remain on target or not throughout the game, with high and very low scoring. On the one hand, Scott Fountain’s special play in the first half featured a fake punt, but it was soon followed by a brutal fake field goal.

Close losses have become something that Arkansas is accustomed to with a 6-16 record in one-score games under Sam Pittman (0-2 in 2024). It doesn’t get much better than that going back to 2013, when Arkansas is 16-42 in games like this.

As cliché as it sounds, the Razorbacks are beating themselves every week. It seems that the decade of fan misfortune will not end soon, even if coaches preach what needs to be changed.
