5 uneven stats from a dominant first half with Georgia 30-7

5 uneven stats from a dominant first half with Georgia 30-7

Phew, Saturday’s Alabama-Georgia game in Tuscaloosa surprised just about everyone, as perhaps the most anticipated game of the week was ridiculously inconsistent in the first half, especially the first quarter.

The No. 4 Crimson Tide went on fire, consuming nearly five minutes of its opening drive before quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Jalen Milroe ran for a seven-yard touchdown. They then scored two rushing touchdowns late in the quarter, and early in the second quarter, Milroe broke free again with a 36-yard touchdown run. And so Alabama quickly jumped out to a 28-0 lead.

Milroe finished the first half going 18-of-21 for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception while also rushing for 106 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the No. 2 Bulldogs couldn’t do much on offense, and quarterback Carson Beck threw an interception in the first quarter – his first of two in the first half – which Alabama later converted.

Georgia finally got on the board after a seven-yard touchdown run by Trevor Etienne, but overall it wasn’t great.

And to make matters worse, Alabama scored two more points with a safety with less than two minutes left in the half.

With a 30-7 lead at halftime, Bryant-Denny Stadium was rocking – even without Nick Saban in the suite – and the stats tell a stunning story of how the Crimson Tide absolutely rocked Georgia in the first half. Here are five ridiculously skewed stats from the first 30 minutes of Alabama’s dominance.

1. First half total yards: Alabama 355, Georgia 153

In the first quarter alone, Alabama gained 198 yards, compared to Georgia’s 27 yards.

2. First downs in the first half: Alabama 16 Georgia 9

Fortunately for the Bulldogs, they started piling up most of them in the second quarter after finishing with one goal in the first.

3. Average yards per play in the first half: Alabama 9.1 Georgia 5.5

4. Passing in the first half: Alabama 199 Georgia 100

It was all Jalen Milroe for Bama.

5. First half rushing yards: Alabama 156 Georgia 53

It was mostly Jalen Milroe.

If you’re a Georgia fan, you’re probably not thrilled with how the first half went against Alabama.
